PHILADELPHIA – A Scottish Deerhound named Claire was named Best in Show at the National Dog Show on Thursday.Claire won top prize at the annual Thanksgiving Day event after winning in the hound group and dazzling the judges.During the NBC broadcast, commentator David Frei said the dog was doing exactly what it was bred to do."It was built perfectly, has an active, easy gait, and is elegant in the way that Sir Walter Scott had in mind when he called the Deerhound the most perfect creature," said Frei.So Pure ??The Scottish Deerhound is the Best in Show at the #NationalDogShow pic.twitter.com/M45ein5v4G— NBC Sports (@NBCSports) November 26, 2020 Like many events this year, the dog show was held without spectators to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In recent years, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia has conducted two separate dog shows, but this year, the club only conducted one show that was divided over two days, on Nov. 14 and 15.The competition was also limited to some 600 dogs, a decrease of 70% from the near 2,000 entries usually on hand.Tomorrow on TODAY: Meet this year’s #NationalDogShow 2020 Best in Show winner: Claire the Scottish Deerhound! @NBCSports @NBC pic.twitter.com/RXoKPWarGb— TODAY (@TODAYshow) November 26, 2020 1259

OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (WTMJ) -- A Wisconsin woman has been charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety after she allegedly had her 9-year-old son ride on top of her minivan to hold down a plastic pool.According to the criminal complaint, it happened around 3 p.m. local time on Sept. 9, when officers responded to reports of a child riding on top of a minivan.A 911 caller followed Amber Schmunk, 28, of Fredonia, until she pulled over and took her child and the pool off the vehicle's roof. Schmunk then continued driving down the road and stopped at her sister’s house where police caught up with her.Schmunk told police picked up the pool at a residence but did not have enough room inside the minivan. She said she “decided to put the pool on top of the minivan, but had no way to strap it down, so she had her child climb on the roof and hold it down while she drove.”Schmunk admitted to police she had her oldest son ride on top of the minivan, “but only for a short time, maybe 20-30 seconds.” Schmunk later stated it was safe because she used a strap to tie the child down on top of the pool. She also told the officer that she believed it was “ok” as her father let her do things like that when she was that age.Schmunk will be back in court on Nov. 14. If convicted, she faces up to ten years in prison and up to a ,000 fine. 1417

People are taking a lot more road trips because their traditional travel plans have been canceled due to COVID-19.Many are renting RVs for the first time. RV rental website Outdoorsy said in May and June, 93% of their bookings were first timers.“The first thing I would say is don’t worry, you know a lot of the worry is up in your head, because these recreational vehicles looking larger and scary and intimidating to drive," said Jennifer Young, co-found and CMO of Outdoorsy.Young says owners renting on the website are willing to walk an RV newbie through the entire process. If you don't want to drive one, they can come to you and set it up.Insurance is covered for everyone when you rent online.First time renters should really focus on researching where they want to stay.“There are thousands and thousands of private RV parks, national parks, state level parks and BLM lands, free camping space available,” said Young.Depending on where you stay, there may be a fee. In terms of pricing, the average RV rental on Outdoorsy is around 1 per night. You usually only drive on the first and last day, so you're not spending a ton on gas. You can pack food to keep costs down. And to no surprise, those surveyed by Outdoorsy said they felt less stressed and the kids were happier on a road trip.“Spending time outside quite literally is the antithesis of being cooped up,” said Young. “Most of the time you spend when you're traveling is on the hikes exploring new places, checking out a river or a stream, going to a nearby town and just hanging out for the day.”Another popular option now is car camping, essentially packing up a smaller rented vehicle or your own car and sleeping outside. Borrowing or renting camping gear is another way to trim costs. 1768

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- On dueling sides of the street at Philadelphia’s Center City, supporters of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are facing off.“Stop that cheat!” Trump supporters yelled. The epicenter of the vote count in Pennsylvania has been the convention center in Philadelphia, where hundreds of thousands of ballots have been tabulated post-Election Day.“Every vote is sacred!” Biden supporters exclaimed. While there were no reported widespread problems in the state on Election Day, the nonpartisan group “Common Cause Pennsylvania,” said the state could do more to improve on this year’s election. The state legislature previously voted that election officials could not count early and mail-in ballots until Election Day, which delayed results from Pennsylvania. That would be something worth revisiting, Common Cause said. There were also some issues involving people being given provisional ballots – those are the ballots of last resort – when those voters should’ve been allowed to vote using a regular ballot. That was chalked up to an election worker training issue. On top of that, Common Cause Pennsylvania had reports of some people waiting as long as three hours to vote.“That's a barrier, right? People have to work and people have child care, elder care responsibilities,” said Suzanne Almeida, director of Common Cause Pennsylvania. “So, even though vote by mail took a huge burden off that in-person voting, which is fantastic, we're really excited about that, I think there's still more to be done to make sure that that process runs smoothly.”However, there are still a few outstanding issues in Pennsylvania, including those ballots that were post-marked on Election Day, but received after that day, through Friday of that week. Those do count, but they could face legal challenges as to whether they should, which is why election officials have segregated those ballots, just in case. 1944

People say it's important to give back to your community. Jennifer Pratt is doing exactly that. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, when she was just 11. The diagnosis meant she spent many days in the hospital.Pratt's chemotherapy took over a year, and because she spent so much time at Children's Minnesota in St. Paul, the hospital staff became like family to her. It was during her treatment that she decided to become a doctor and, 20 years later, she's living her dream as a hospitalist in the same place where she received treatment."(Cancer) is something that makes you stronger," she said. 628
