SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ring video captured a man leaping into action, after an incident at a neighbor's Mira Mesa home.Just off Parkdale Avenue, Rod Hutty ran to the front yard in his sandals and saw some frantic neighbors last Wednesday afternoon."I heard a scream and two women came out. One had a stick and shouted, 'Stop,'" said Hutty. Video shows what happened next. Hutty says he spotted a man in his early 20s, who started running."My adrenaline kicked in. I knew something was wrong. I shouted at him," said Hutty.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHutty gave chase. He saw another man running in a different direction, causing Hutty to go after him. What isn't seen on camera is Hutty catching up to him."I went like this and he went like this, and grabbed him and almost took him to the ground. Then he got away," said Hutty.Hutty chased them for a bit, before heading back to get his bike. He never saw them again. Witnesses spotted a blue minivan picking up the two men. Hutty later got a visit from the Eggum family, receiving a big "thank you." Hutty's cousin placed the video on the Neighbors by Ring app."Did the best he could ... appreciate neighbors helping out," said Gordon Eggum.Eggum says his wife saw the two men lurking in the backyard after hopping the fence. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents in Ocean Beach are taking their concerns over what they say is a dangerous intersection to the OB Planning Board.Isaac Darby, Vice President of the OB Neighborhood Watch, says the intersection in question is Saratoga Ave. and Ebers St., situated near a children’s park and blocks away from Ocean Beach Elementary.The OB Neighborhood Watch group wants to see a four-way stop sign at the intersection. “People kind of pick up momentum seeing that the stop sign on Santa Monica is the last one all the way before the stoplight at Voltaire, so it’s kind of the last stop before you just can bonsai out of town,” said Darby.In addition to speeding, he says large trucks are often parked on the street causing blind spots. Darby says the intersection is most dangerous during the morning and evening commutes, for both drivers and pedestrians.Darby’s initial application to the city for a four-way stop sign was denied; he was told it didn’t meet city requirements. Now he and other residents are taking their concerns to the OB Planning Board in hopes of building a stronger case.The OB Planning Board Chair says the board can request a traffic study. Once it's complete, the city will review it and make a recommendation. “My plea is do something proactive before we have to be reactive and someone gets hurt or worse,” said Darby. “A lot of the little accidents and fender benders aren’t reported.”Darby says the community is only growing and that they hope to get ahead of problems. 1518

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Humane Society officers rescued 21 cats living in filthy conditions in a South Bay home on Tuesday.SDHS said Wednesday officers were working to recover more from the home.The cats were recovered from the home and are suffering from a range of health conditions, including malnutrition, fleas, upper respiratory infections, and some eye traumas that were left untreated. Wednesday, one of those cats was scheduled to undergo emergency eye surgery.Humane Society staff say the cats will be cared for at the shelter but did not say whether they would eventually be offered for adoption.SDHS did not say whether charges were being filed against the homeowner. 692

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents wanting to take a hot shower at a La Jolla apartment complex could have to wait several days while crews work to repair a gas leak. The leak shut off hot water to three apartment buildings. Neighbors say they got a series of emails Saturday, one of them saying they wouldn’t have hot water for five to seven days. Residents say the issue is unacceptable. "I'm not getting in there, it's way too cold,” said Nick Imison. An email from his leasing company informed Imison he would be without hot water for about a week. Imison lives in the Regents La Jolla apartment complex. The email went on to say that their gas supply was shut off after crews found a gas leak. In the email, residents were told that if they need a shower during business hours, they need to stop by the office with an ID. “I was completely unacceptable for a complex that has about 600 units to just go hey yea you can come shower bring your id but it's only between the hours of nine and six,” Imison said. 10News reached out to the leasing company via email but have not heard back. In the email sent to residents, the company cites the need for several city and SDG&E required inspections before they can turn the gas back on. 1242
