SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 18-year-old San Diego student who has already cemented her place in climbing has now grabbed a historic Olympic accolade.Sunday, Brooke Raboutou, of Boulder, Colo., qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Games to become the first-ever American to qualify for Olympic climbing, according to the U.S. Olympic Committee. The University of San Diego sophomore finished ninth in the combined qualification round at the IFSC Climbing World Championships in Hachioji, Japan, according to Team USA. Her final rank will be based on the results from all three events.U.S. athletes will have two more chances to qualify for the 2020 team. The Tokyo games will take a maximum of two qualifying athletes from each country, featuring 20 athletes per gender.Raboutou has been competing from a young age, beginning her climbing career when she was 7 years old, according to Team USA. At 11, she became the youngest person in the world to complete a 5.14b-grade climb. She is also 2018's lead youth world champion, 2016 combined youth world champion, and 2017's combined youth Pan American champion. Raboutou skills come across as a genetic trait, as her parents were each multiple-time climbing world cup champions and her older brother is also an accomplished climber. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An exonerated marine colonel was denied release from the Camp Pendleton brig. Colonel Dan Wilson's release was denied three months after he was exonerated for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl. In July, an appellate court overturned his conviction. Since then, his family has been awaiting his release. His wife spoke to 10News over the phone just moments after his release was denied. "I was shocked and I burst into tears. This man has been in for two years and 10 months," said Susan Wilson. "If they cant believe their own court of appeals then there's a problem there."His family maintains the system has been unjust from the beginning. "I just feel as though he’s getting a really bad rap by the USMC after 38 years of service and 11 deployments," said Wilson. "It's astounding to me that they pride themselves on ‘Marines take care of their own’. Well, they haven’t taken care of us whatsoever."Col. Wilson was also convicted of unauthorized leave and conduct unbecoming of an officer. He'll stay behind bars while he awaits a re-sentencing for those charges. 1100

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A YouTube video of a community college police officer who drew his gun on a San Diego man carrying a camera Wednesday is going viral.The video shows the Mesa College police officer getting out of his car and asking Chris, the man with two cameras, what he was filming.Chris, who did not want to provide his last name, refused to put down the GoPro camera. Within seconds, the officer took his weapon out of the holster. The officer did not put his gun back in the holster until a second officer arrived.Chris is the founder of California Citizens Watch, a group that audits government entities. He told 10News reporter Allison Ash he was not trying to provoke the officer into pulling his gun.Watch the confrontation: 10News spoke with former El Cajon police officer Kevin LaChapelle who said he believes Chris was definitely out for a confrontation.
