BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The industrial production of China's chemical sector increased 2.4 percent year on year in the first two months, and the falling trend for major product's output was eased, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Friday.     The figure was calculated based on the comparable working days in the first two months, since China's Lunar New Year holiday fellin February last year, but in January this year.     Zhu Hongren, official with the MIIT said although the output expansion was marginal, the contracting trend for the production of major chemical products was eased.     Of the major 30 chemical products monitored by the ministry, 21saw output falling in the first two months, but the falling rate was tempered from that in December. In addition, three products saw output get back to growth.     To support the annual "Spring Plough" season, the output of major three chemical fertilizer rose 4.6 percent to 8.75 million tonnes through January to February.     The pesticide production grew 9.1 percent to 394,000 tonnes in the first two months, and that for February alone jumped 14.4 percent.     Zhu Hongren said despite of the easing contraction, it was too early to be optimistic, citing the chemical industry faced the most difficult condition comparing with other raw material producing sectors.     China's industrial output rose 5.2 percent year on year in the first two months, with the growth slowing from December, MIIT said last week.     The figure was 0.5 percentage point lower than in December, dragged down by plummeting exports and high inventories, according to MIIT.     Experts said the figure showed Chinese industry was still feeling the pinch of the global downturn.

BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Another Chinese delegation of businesses and industry leaders, led by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), left for four European countries Saturday for investment and economic cooperation, the MOC said.     The business delegation, following purchases totaled more than 10 billion U.S. dollars in Europe by a Chinese procurement delegation in late February, are heading for the same destinations of Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Britain.     The new delegation will explore investment opportunities on areas of automobile, machinery, textile, food, electronics and technologies relating to energy saving and environment protection.     An MOC official said "the move would further strengthen cooperation between Chin and Europe and create a win-win result in tackling the global economic downturn."     The delegation are composed of more than 20 top Chinese companies, as well as several national trade associations and government officials.

LONDON, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's mining giant Aluminium Corporation of China (Chinalco) announced here on Thursday it will inject 19.5 billion U.S. dollars in cash into Rio Tinto.     The cash injection is regarded as "firepower" for Rio Tinto, against the global economic downturn, Tom Albanese, chief executive of Rio Tinto, said. BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China Friday called on the international community to "act cautiously" on the Darfur issue as it is afraid rash action could damage peace and stability in Sudan.     "The involved parties should fully respect and listen carefully to the voices of the African Union (AU), the Arab League and African and Arabian countries," Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said in his meeting with visiting Sudanese president's envoy Awad Ahmed al-Jaz in Beijing.     "The international community should further promote the deployment of the UN/AU hybrid operation in Darfur", Xi said.     Xi called on the international community to help advance the political process, to ensure the Doha-mediated dialogue will achieve substantive progress and facilitate the smooth progress ofthe humanitarian aid in the Darfur region.     Under joint mediation of the United Nations (UN) and the AU, as well as the sponsorship of Qatar, the Sudanese government and rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) signed in Doha last month a goodwill agreement to pave the way for resumption of peace negotiations.     During the meeting, Xi also highlighted the growth of relations between China and Sudan since the two forged diplomatic relations 50 years ago. Xi noted China would regard the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to push traditional friendly relations to a higher level.     Echoing Xi's views, al-Jaz said that Sudan expected to continue to cement bilateral friendly cooperation with China in various fields and would firmly support China on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet.     He said the Sudanese government would never recognize the arrest warrant against President al-Bashir but still remained committed to working with the UN and AU and take effective measures to improve the humanitarian situation in Darfur and coordinate with the implementation of the UN/AU hybrid operation in the region.
