(KGTV) -- The Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges announced Monday that they will remain online through spring 2021 amid the coronavirus pandemic.The colleges said they are currently deciding which 2021 classes need to be taught in person, but can also meet safely in person.“We all miss the vibrancy of our campuses filled with students, but we must first consider the extent to which we can open our campuses while ensuring our students and employees are protected,” said Lynn Neault, chancellor of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District.RELATED: Sweetwater Union HS District to continue distance learning through remainder of 2020The news comes as the Sweetwater Union High School District announced that it will remain online through the rest of the fall 2020 semester. 788

(KGTV) - The Tesla vehicle involved in a deadly California crash last week was operating in "Autopilot" mode, the company confirmed Friday.The vehicle is now the latest accident involving an autonomous vehicle in the last month.The fatal crash on March 23 occurred in Mountain View, Calif. The vehicle had been engaged in Autopilot and alerted the driver with "several" visual and audible "hands-on" warnings, Tesla said in a release.The driver, identified as 38-year-old Walter Huang, did not have his hands on the wheel in the six seconds leading up to the fiery crash, according to the drive logs Tesla recovered."The driver had about five seconds and 150 meters of unobstructed view of the concrete divider with the crushed crash attenuator, but the vehicle logs show that no action was taken," according to Tesla.Tesla said the force of the crash was so severe the highway safety barrier designed to reduce impact into the concrete lane divider had been crushed."We have never seen this level of damage to a Model X in any other crash," Tesla said.Officials from Tesla said they are working with investigators to understand what led to the crash.The company maintained, however, that drivers using Autopilot are 3.7 times less likely to be involved in a fatal crash."No one knows about the accidents that didn’t happen, only the ones that did. The consequences of the public not using Autopilot, because of an inaccurate belief that it is less safe, would be extremely severe," Tesla said.In March, a self-driving Uber vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian in Arizona. A 3-month-old child was found alive this week in a Painesville, Ohio apartment with her parents who had died from an apparent drug overdose.Police performed a welfare check at the apartment on the 1280 block of West Jackson Street Sunday afternoon where they found 29-year-old Matthew J. Jacquemain and his girlfriend 25-year-old Sarah K. Poorman dead in the home from apparent drug overdoses.Police said they found the couple's infant daughter in the apartment. A 28-year-old openly gay first-time candidate for a seat in the Hawaii state legislature defeated a Proud Boys leader in this month's election.Adrian Tam defeated Nicholas Ochs by carrying 63% of the vote in the race to represent Hawaii's District 22 — which covers Waikiki, Ala Moana, and Kakaako on Oahu — in the state House of Representatives.According to The Daily Beast and NBC News, Tam will be the only openly LGBTQ+ person currently serving in the Hawaii legislature.Tam said that throughout the general election campaign, he was "bombarded" with hateful messages from his opponents' campaign."It's almost to a harassment level," Tam told NBC News.The Ochs campaign Facebook page was removed in September for violating platform policies. He has been criticized for "offensive posts" about the Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities, according to NBC News. The Daily Beast reports that Ochs received an endorsement from Roger Stone, a longtime Trump ally and political provocateur.Ochs told NBC News that he had also received harassing messages from Tam's supporters, and denied that he is a racist.But despite his messy race with Ochs, Tam told The Daily Beast that his campaign's biggest challenge came in unseating incumbent Tom Brower in the primary election.
