SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The city of Santee called on residents today to help it develop a brand to market the city to tourists, businesses and potential residents.Santee recently partnered with North Star Destination Strategies to develop a marketing brand for the city. To that end, the marketing agency launched an online survey for Santee residents to give feedback on the city's strengths, weaknesses and challenges. Responses to the survey are anonymous, according to North Star Destination Strategies."We have partnered with more than 250 communities across North American and I can't emphasize enough the importance of insights gleaned from community members," North Star Founder Don McEachern said.Residents can access the survey at the city's website and submit it electronically. The survey is also available in physical form at Santee City Hall. The surveys must be submitted by Sept. 2 to be considered."It is important for us to celebrate what we love about our community and share it with others," Santee Mayor John Minto said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Cajon Valley Union School District has joined 17 other California school districts in filing lawsuits against Juul for marketing its e-cigarettes and related products to children, attorneys said Tuesday.The suit is one of several recently filed against the San Francisco- based vaping company, which could not immediately be reached for comment regarding the litigation.Cajon Valley Union's suit is one of three filed by San Diego County school districts, joining San Diego and Poway Unified.RELATED: San Diego Unified School District suing JUULThe lawsuits allege negligence and nuisance on the part of Juul, claiming its advertising campaigns targeting young people have caused an e- cigarette "epidemic," which has "severely impacted" the school districts by interfering "with normal school operations."The school districts are also seeking compensatory damages to offset financial losses the districts allege resulted from vaping-related student absences, as well as extensive costs the districts incurred to establish outreach and education programs regarding vaping and enforcement infrastructure such as vape detectors, surveillance systems and extra staff to monitor e- cigarette use among students."The youth vaping epidemic created by Juul has significant costs," said John Fiske, shareholder for plaintiff's attorneys Baron & Budd. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The guided-missile destroyer USS Pinckney returned to Naval Station San Diego today following a nine-month deployment. Pinckney, along with a detachment from Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 75, deployed in January with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group to the U.S. 7th Fleet/East Asia/Pacific region. The Pinckney crew in April joined with the U.S. 4th Fleet's Caribbean and Central and South America areas of operation for counternarcotics operations.``The sailors of Pinckney have helped make the United States a safer place to live,'' said Cmdr. Andrew Roy, Pinckney's commanding officer. ``I thank all Pinckney sailors and U.S. Coast Guardsmen who overcame many obstacles to make sure illicit narcotics will never make it into our homes, schools or communities.''During Pinckney's deployment, the crew of the destroyer -- along with an embarked U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment -- recovered 9,800 kilograms of cocaine and 2,800 pounds of marijuana with an estimated wholesale value of 0 million. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Restaurant chain Tapioca Express has agreed to pay more than 0,000 to settle a federal sexual harassment lawsuit involving two franchises in Chula Vista and National City, where the owner was accused of making unwanted sexual advances toward young female employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reported Monday. Tapioca Express will pay 2,500 due to the unidentified restaurant owner's conduct toward Filipina employees between the ages of 17 and 23, according to the EEOC, which reported the harassment involved "repeated and unwanted comments of a sexual nature and physical contact," which led some employees to quit their jobs. The EEOC did not specify how many employees were harassed, but alleged that a written complaint did not lead to any changes regarding the harassment. "We commend the young women for coming forward to shine a light on the harassment to which they were subjected," said Christopher Green, director of the EEOC's San Diego office. "Their strength may give courage to other young people or those in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community who may be suffering harassment or discrimination in the workplace to come forward as well."In addition to the settlement money, Tapioca Express will hire an "external monitor" to review sexual harassment policies and procedures and establish a complaint procedure for employees. Anti-sexual harassment training will also be provided to all employees. "Harassment remains a persistent problem in the workplace, which must be addressed top-down in any company," said Anna Park, regional attorney for EEOC's Los Angeles district office.
