SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Padres games just got a little classier. The Padres hosted their inaugural "Anchorman" race at Petco Park Friday, featuring San Diego's favorite news team from Channel 4: Anchor Ron Burgundy, sports reporter Champ Kind, reporter Brian Fantana, and weatherman Brick Tamland. And by the beard of Zeus, Burgundy took the first race handily. RELATED: Padres unveil Ballast Point's Swingin' Friar AleThe race was created in collaboration with Paramount Pictures and actors Will Ferrell (Burgundy), David Koechner (Kind), Paul Rudd (Fantana), and Steve Carell (Tamland), according to the Padres. Each character is modeled after the "Anchorman" news team and it appears their trademark ego has gone to their heads. The massive heads were created by the same artist who modeled the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents and Arizona Diamondbacks Racing Legends characters.San Diego's race also joins the ranks of other races including the Milwaukee Brewers' sausage race and the Pittsburgh Pirates' pierogi race.RELATED: Brews outside Petco: Downtown breweries to visit before, after the gameAnyone else smell a street fight?Fans can expect to see the team race primarily on the weekends at Petco Park, as well as special games — it's kind of a big deal. The new "Anchorman" race is just the latest in new offerings at Petco, including a new beer created just for the team by Ballast Point, the Sycuan Stage concert venue at Park at the Park, and a revamped Compass Premier Club, the stadium's largest renovation since its 2004 opening. 1561

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Gas & Electric customers across San Diego County are on standby Thursday for possible power outages due to an increased risk of fire. About 34,000 homes and businesses received 48 hours' notice of the possible shut-off to lower the hazard posed by power lines, according to SDG&E. The utility company issued two additional notices Thursday and downgraded the number of affected customers to about 18,000 at 4:45 p.m."Notifications are made via multiple channels: outbound dialer calls, text messages, and emails. If you have not signed up for notifications, please visit sdge.com/MyAccount to subscribe to alerts," SDG&E said.Areas that could be affected include East Alpine, Banner Grade, Boulevard, Campo, Descanso, Fallbrook, Julian, Mesa Grande, Mount Laguna, Oak Grove, Palomar Mountain, Pine Valley, Potrero, Ramona, Rincon, Santa Ysabel, Valley Center, Viejas, Warner Springs, and Wynola. MAP: SAN DIEGO COUNTY COMMUNITIES WITH POSSIBLE PLANNED OUTAGES“Our team of five meteorologists continue to closely monitor weather conditions throughout our region,” SDG&E reported, adding it had weather stations "strategically located throughout high fire threat areas.” In Pine Valley, 10News met Brook Varner, a cook at Frosty Burger. She said the last storm blew away a lot of the restaurant's patio umbrellas. In preparation for the Santa Ana winds, Varner took them down. Varner said she and her kitchen staff have to be smart about perishables in case the power goes out. “We actually don’t have a generator, so we have been kind of trying to prepare just by not overstocking any of our food or slicing perishables that will go bad,” Varner said. Northern California power outage: 1.5 million left in the dark, most now for second dayIf SDG&E does shut off the power in Pine Valley, employees have no choice but to close up shop. 10News also met long-time Pine Valley resident, George Desena. Like many others, he was at the pump filling up his gas can for his backup generator at home. Despite the per gallon cost, Desena gladly filled up, saying it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. "Gotta have it. What’s another few cents? You know?" Desena said. "You have to make sure that it [the generator] is working so that we have some power. Get us through this little event. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into a big event!"CSU San Marcos prepares for possible power outagesDesena said the last time he used his backup generator was during the Red Flag Warning last November. Should any planned outage last more than 24 hours, SDG&E plans to open temporary aid centers with water, snacks, and charging stations.SDG&E warned customers to gather emergency supplies including water, flashlights, and cell phone battery packs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan is objecting to the early release of a man convicted of driving off the Coronado Bridge and crashing in Chicano Park, killing four people.Richard Anthony Sepolio, 27, was convicted of four counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of DUI causing injury in the crash on Oct. 15, 2016. He was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison. He is set to be released early after serving two years and 10 months of his sentence. Monday, the CDCR notified victims in the case of the release, citing prison credits for good behavior and the state's policy on release amid COVID-19. Stephan wrote a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), calling the release a "miscarriage of justice.""This very early release is unconscionable," Stephan wrote. "CDCR’s decision is re-victimizing the family and friends of the four people killed and seven injured who have been devastated by their loss and continue to deal with the financial, emotional, mental and physical trauma caused by the defendant. This inmate continues to deny and minimize the crime by refusing to admit he was speeding and denying being impaired while arguing with his girlfriend on the phone, which resulted in the devastating crash."The crash killed Annamarie Contreras, 50, and Cruz Contreras, 52, of Chandler, Ariz.; and Hacienda Heights residents Andre Banks, 49, and Francine Jimenez, 46. Seven other people were also seriously injured.Sepolio was traveling between 81 and 87 miles per hour when he lost control and plunged over the bridge, landing in the park below where a motorcycle rally had attracted nearly 1,000 people, according to Stephan. Sepolio had testified that another vehicle would not let him over into the left-hand lane, so he sped up twice to pass before the crash occurred. 1912
