SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people spotted by police smashing a window at a Pacific Beach Wendy’s restaurant were arrested after leading officers on a chase.The incident unfolded at around 1:15 a.m. at the fast food restaurant on 1621 Grand Ave., according to San Diego police.Officers were in the area when they saw two people smash a window at the eatery. When police tried to make contact with them, they got into a pickup truck and drove away.The truck reached speeds of up to 100 MPH as it led police on a pursuit towards Interstate 8.Police’s ABLE helicopter helped ground units track the truck into the Midway District, and as the vehicle tried to make a left turn on Rosecrans Street, it crashed into the center divider.The truck then entered a nearby strip mall and came to a stop. The two occupants got out, but officers arrived and took them into custody.Police are trying to determine if the window smash was part of a burglary attempt or an act of vandalism. 975

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Traveler satisfaction stagnated year-over-year as airports struggle to keep customers happy, according to J.D. Power. According to the report, construction projects and passenger volumes are at least partly responsible for the trend. San Diego International ranked 13th out of 27 in the large airport category, with a score of 774 out of 1,000. To reach the conclusion, the report looked at six factors: Terminal facilities; airport accessibility; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check and food, beverage and retail. “With major terminal construction projects now underway in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and many other airports, it is becoming impossible for travelers not to experience some form of disruption,” said Michael Taylor, Travel Intelligence Lead at J.D. Power. “While these projects are absolutely necessary to address surging demand, they are currently causing passenger delays and confusion. This translates into a rushed passenger experience and less money spent on food, beverage and retail—and it’s slowing the progress of the airport satisfaction we’ve seen in the past several years.”Meanwhile J.D. Power says the experience of getting through security at the airport has improved by five points. The study is based on responses from more than 32,000 U.S. or Canadian residents who traveled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport that covers both departure and arrival experiences over the last three months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two San Diego-based Marines are under investigation after posting a video that appears to show them in "blackface."According to KPBS, Zach Highfield originally posted the video on Snapchat. Highfield's Instagram page shows him in his Marine uniform. The video shows Highfield and another man in uniform with their faces blackened. One of them is heard saying "blackface." The other man puts on his cap and salutes. At one point, one of them uses a racist slang used to describe African Americans. The video shared on social media, with many people on Twitter, saying the Marines should be kicked out of the military. Bishop Cornelius Bowser is the pastor of Charity Apostolic Church. He agrees. "It seems as though, whether it's military or someone in the community or working for a company, they should have learned by now that this is unacceptable," said Bishop Bowser. Highfield told a KPBS reporter, they were wearing charcoal masks used to clean pores. He said they didn't mean to offend anyone. 10News tried calling Highfield at the number posted on his Instagram page, but his voicemail was full and he did not respond to texts. Bishop Bowser believes the two knew exactly what they were doing. "We pay our tax dollars for them to protect and serve our country and this is not it, right there, that kind of display, that kind of character should not be allowed." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - UC San Diego researchers want to understand better how humans are impacting climate change, looking to the ocean for answers. Inside the Hydraulics Lab at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography sits a large tank mimicking the ocean. "It's a one-of-a-kind experiment that has taken us eight years to get to the point of doing," said Kimberly Prather, Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at UC San Diego. Funding for the novel project comes from the National Science Foundation, which put million into the first five years of research and another million into the next five years. When waves break, salts and other living material including viruses and bacteria are launched in the form of sea spray aerosols into the atmosphere. Scientists are interested in better understanding the role of these particles in controlling climate by forming clouds over oceans that cover nearly three-quarters of the earth's surface.Now the research includes experiments to determine how pollution from human activities interact with natural ocean emissions and change the chemical composition of the atmosphere."A lot of people still deny that humans are the ones changing things, this experiment will pinpoint how much and how fast humans are changing things," said Prather.She says changes in the ocean, atmosphere, and climate are happening much faster than scientists once thought. "We used to say we're passionate about it because it's affecting our kids and our grandkids. But it's affecting us right now, today," said Prather.They hope to pinpoint which human activities, like car emissions or coal combustion, are doing the most harm.Prather hopes answers discovered in the lab will guide policymakers on how to tackle the growing threat. 1765

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — University of San Diego officials say they are investigating white supremacy social media accounts that claim to have ties to the university.In a joint statement from several USD leadership, the school says in the last 24 hours it has been made aware of Instagram accounts that claim to have ties to the school and are used to "post white supremacy propaganda."USD said it is investigating the source of the social media accounts and are making formal requests to Instagram to remove them, with some already taken down.The school slammed the accounts as "abhorrent and hateful" and condemned the posts.
