BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- In light of the recent school attacks, China has tightened security for the college entrance examination which begins on Monday."All the relevant departments and local governments are fully prepared to respond to emergencies during the exam," said Liu Junyi, vice-director of the exam center under the Ministry of Education, on Sunday.In Beijing, police, security guards and volunteers will work together to guard the exam venues.In Henan and Anhui provinces, emergency-responses have been prepared in case of disorder due to bad weather, serious cheating behavior, food poisoning, or traffic accidents.China's national college entrance examination will be held on Monday, with more than 9.57 million examinees competing for 6.57 million places at nationwide universities and colleges.Because of the recent slew of attacks against students, boarding school teachers in south China' s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are required to walk students from their schools to the exam venues."The college entrance exam is a matter of great importance that demands joint efforts of relevant departments," Liu said.In Chongqing municipality, public security departments have inspected students' living areas around exam venues to ensure their safety.In Hubei province, relevant departments have completed a rehearsal using exam paper B in case that students are found cheating using exam paper A.In Jilin, an anti-cheating campaign has seized over 4,000 cheating device sets."We have organized a dozen expert teams, who are ready to handle nationwide emergencies and incidents," Liu said.In quake-hit Yushu of Qinghai Province, experts from the Ministry of Education have arrived to help hold the exam.A total of 9.57 million people have registered to sit for the exam this year. BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to further regulate the selection and promotion of government and Party cadres, the Communist Party of China (CPC) turned to the public for help in its four newly released documents."One breakthrough of these rules is we shift the focus from simply supervising the procedures of cadre selection and promotion to also weighing in what the colleagues and the locals think about," said a statement released Monday by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.The four documents, promulgated on March 31 by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, cover the selection and auditing of officials and set out penalties for those found guilty of misconduct in the selection and promotion of government and Party cadres.According to the new rules, personnel departments should consult staff within the organization on every newly appointed officials. The results, paired with local Party committees' official report on personnel changes, will be submitted annually to superior Party committees' for review.These opinions will also be incorporated into the work evaluation of officials in charge of local cadre selection and promotion.In serious cases, leading officials in the Party committees who misuse their power and violate CPC regulations on the selection and appointment of Party and government cadres could be dismissed from their posts, demoted, transferred to other posts, or asked to resign.To better solicit public opinions, Party committees at provincial levels across the country are moving to open online service and telephone hotline for whistleblowers to report such violations.According to the rules, personnel departments must carry out investigation based on detailed reports from the public and the media.

MOSCOW, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Russia will give humanitarian aid to quake-stricken China, a source at the Emergency Situations Ministry told Russian media on Friday."Under the Russian president's order, the ministry will deliver tents, blankets, diesel generators and food to China, about 40 tons of cargo in total," the ministry said, quoted by the Itar- Tass news agency.The flight is scheduled for Saturday, the source said."An Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane of the ministry will bring the aid to the Qinghai province, which sustained the heaviest damage in the recent quake," the ministry said.Another plane will bring more aid to China in the near future.Last Wednesday, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, in Qinghai province, killing over 2,000 people and injuring 10,000 others.
