SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a woman suspected of shooting a woman in the Southcrest area Monday morning.San Diego police said officers were called to the 900 block of South 39th Street just after 7 a.m. in response to a person injured in a shooting.Officers arrived to find a woman with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, but her condition is unknown as of 10 a.m.Witnesses told police the suspected shooter, a woman, fled the scene in a silver sedan.Moments after the shooting, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a crash on Interstate 805 near state Route 54 involving the vehicle believed to be driven by the suspected shooter.CHP officials believes the suspected shooter may have been injured in the crash but left the scene.Police are checking to see if the woman sought treatment at any area hospitals. 889

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — On Friday, there was confusion and frustration with Poway Unified School District's reopening plans this fall from parents like Mark Meadows. “I think they should make their decisions based on the facts. Not based on something that they made up or something that they misinterpreted,” Meadows said.In a letter sent out earlier this week, PUSD reported, in part, that it planned for the possibility to resume classes in-person after the county was off the state's monitoring list for 14 consecutive days. The letter reads, "However, the new metrics announced to San Diego County superintendents [Tuesday], require our county to be off the monitoring list for two 14-day cycles (a total of 28 consecutive days)."That 28-day part is incorrect, county officials said Friday.PUSD reported to parents that the district would continue with virtual learning through December.On Thursday night, Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps told ABC10 News, “The reason why we chose going to December was that after talking to our district administrators and staff, we wanted some continuity of learning for our children to ensure that so that we could finish whatever option we started with like finish a whole entire quarter or trimester.”“[If this goes through December] it would require us a lot of schedule shifting and possibly paying for some type of tutor or nanny to watch our child while they're at their virtual class during the day,” added Meadows.Dr. Kim-Phelps said she sent the letter after getting new guidelines during a tele-briefing on Tuesday with the county but the county confirmed Friday that PUSD's information is incorrect.Friday afternoon, PUSD reported that was no misunderstanding on its part and directed ABC10 News to a county slide that reads, in part, that on Day 28, schools can reopen for in-person instruction.PUSD added on Friday, “There's no change in our plans." 1909

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are looking into an apparent road rage-related chase and collision involving two women that spanned the length of Interstate 8 between Mission Valley and Ocean Beach.Officers said the women were traveling more than 100 mph on westbound I-8 in Mission Valley before they exited in the Ocean Beach area.When both women got to Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, police said the driver of a silver car rammed the other driver’s white SUV several times. The SUV then forced the other car to collide with a center divide.The SUV’s driver got out of her vehicle and confronted the other driver; she reportedly told police she pepper-sprayed the silver car’s driver because she became aggressive.ABC 10News learned the pepper sprayed driver told police that she and the other woman were dating the same man.However, the SUV’s driver claimed she did not know the silver car’s driver.There is no word if anyone was arrested, as police are still trying to sort out the details. 991

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Neighbors point to a devastating Northern California fire as their strongest case towards getting the latest housing development denied in East County.Dozens killed and home after home devastated by the Camp Fire in Paradise, Calif., last year."A fire here would cause massive casualties and probably burn into Chula Vista or San Diego," Peter Anderson, of the Sierra Club, said in front of the County Administration Building Wednesday.Neighbors and environmental advocates opposed to Otay Ranch Village 14 say the county needs to stop piling up hazards. Despite the protest, the county moved Wednesday to move forward with the project."This is a catastrophe in the making," Dan Silver, of the Endangered Habitats League, said. "There are tens of thousands of unbuilt units in good village locations, there is no need to put a project in such a dangerous location."Those opposed also believe evacuations would be an issue adding the infrastructure should go elsewhere.The locations for many of the new housing developments in San Diego have been called dangerous. Near Escondido, the Harmony Grove and Valiano subdivison faced similar fire fears related criticism but both were eventually passed by the county board."This project is the poster child for dangerous sprawl development," Anderson said.People who don't want to see more homes built where fires have burned feel it's about putting more folks in harms way. 1444

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Ocean Beach residents say they are uniting to address issues they believe stem from people living in vehicles.OB resident Michael Copley and nearly 100 others emailed San Diego Police this week, asking for officers to step up patrols in their neighborhood. "I'm just a citizen. I have no authority, I can't enforce anything," Michael Copley says. "But I was asking [police], 'please we want police presence in Ocean Beach.'"RELATED: Red curb in Ocean Beach is a fake fire zone, City of San Diego saysCopley says the large number of people living out of their vehicles in the neighborhood are fueling several community issues like vandalism and the prevalence of drugs. In a response posted to social media by SDPD officer David Surwilo, Surwilo says the concerns have been sent to patrol supervisors so that they "are aware of your community safety issues, what you are seeing and dealing with and your requests for assistance to address these issues."SDPD Capt. Scott Wahl adds, "We are out in the Ocean Beach area, seven days a week, making sure that we are addressing these issues. And it's important that the community continues to provide that information to us."The post referenced complaints pertaining to areas of Ocean Beach, Robb Field, and dog beach over vehicle campers, drug use, homelessness, and quality of life."One person sleeping in their car is not a big deal. But 100 people sleeping in their vans, that creates an impact on the community," Copley said.In May, city leaders approved restrictions on people living in their vehicles within San Diego. Part of those restriction prevent people from sleeping in vehicles within 500 feet of a school or home and overnight anywhere in the city from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.Wahl says that now, the city has more beds and parking lots available for free to those living in vehicles that can help alleviate the concerns.
