(AP) — Orange County’s new interim health officer says he will lift a requirement that residents wear face coverings in public and instead recommend they do so to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The change comes three days after the previous health officer abruptly resigned following threats she received over her order requiring masks as the county allowed more businesses to reopen. (KGTV) — A dream trip to Africa for a Santee grandmother turned into a nightmare as she sat in a tour bus.Daughter-in-law Tomira Baca-Craig says Jeanette Craig, who retired four years ago, left for South Africa two weeks ago. Jeanette had been saving for the trip for more than a year.  It was her first trip to Africa.A few days after she arrived, she was on a tour bus headed to an animal preserve in the landlocked country of Lesotho when the bus overturned, killing three and injuring more than 12 tourists on board, including Jeanette."Because she had her seatbelt on, she wasn't thrown. She was trapped upside down. When the bus rolled, that's when she sustained all her injuries," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette was transported by helicopter to a clinic just outside Lesotho. She has since undergone several surgeries, suffering a fractured pelvis and leg, and torn ligaments in her legs."Now her pain is just shocking. There's a ton of breakthrough pain every time she shifts because the pelvis is bone on bone," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette is comforted by her daughter, who just arrived in South Africa. Loved ones say they just want to bring her home.  "We'd like to get an MRI and another CT scan to and rule out everything else because it was such a traumatic accident," said Baca-Craig. The problem? SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The amount of snow blanketing the Sierra Nevada is even larger than the 2017 snowpack that pulled the state out of a five-year drought, California water officials said.As of Thursday, the snowpack measured 202% of average after a barrage of storms throughout winter and spring, according to the Department of Water Resources.The wet weather has slowed but not stopped, with thunderstorms prompting flash flood warnings Sunday in the central and southern parts of the state.At this time last year, the snowpack measured 6% of average — making this year 33 times bigger than 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.In 2017, the snowpack measured 190% of average.The snowpack supplies about 30 percent of state water needs.In the Tahoe Basin, Squaw Valley ski resort has seen so much snow it plans to keep its slopes open until least July 5. In May alone, Squaw recorded 37 inches (94 centimeters).State officials consider the most important snowpack measurement to be the one taken around April 1 because that's typically when storm activity subsides."And then after that the sun's highest position in the sky contributes to rapid melting.
