A student says when she would tell her parents how school staff spoke to her, they didn’t believe her. So she grabbed her phone and recorded it. When her family saw it they said it is time for adults to be held accountable. In the video she recorded you can hear the principal of the Riverside Academy West Charter School in Dearborn, Michigan, and students. The principal says he was called by a teacher to help with disruptive students. Because she is a minor we are withholding her identity, but the student recording admits she interrupted class by talking with a friend. She says the principal then overreacted. He can be held yelling at the students to shut up and to go to another school if they don’t like it. He calls one student a big mouth. “I was scared. One girl was crying, because he has two faces, one for the parents and for us,” said the student. “I cannot imagine watching a teacher treat my children this way,” said Kaytlyn Dell, who is the student’s older sister. She is speaking for her parents because they do not speak English. “Kids are screaming. Teachers are screaming. There is no structure,” said Dell. “Anything short of treating children with dignity and respect, parents, colleagues, administrators, is unacceptable. So anytime that is compromised we take that very seriously and address the matter swiftly,” said Michael Conran, Superintendent of Global Education Excellence Schools, which runs several charter schools. Conran says he cannot comment on student behavior or personnel issues due to privacy laws, but the school will follow up. “My hope is that a conversation can take place, perhaps at this table with the parents, students, and staff members involved and there can be resolution,” said Conran. 1755

ALACHUA COUNTY, Florida — A portion of southbound I-75 remains closed Friday after five children and two adults were killed in a fiery crash on Thursday afternoon near Gainesville. The five children were reportedly on their way to Disney World, according to FHP. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at least six patients were transported to area hospitals from the scene — multiple patients with critical injuries. Alachua County Fire Rescue says the crash occurred at 3:42 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 393 north of Northwest 39th Avenue. The crash involved two tractor-trailers, a passenger van and a mid-size four-door sedan, according to Florida Highway Patrol. As of Friday morning, northbound lanes and only one southbound lane of I-75 is open in the area. During a news conference on Friday morning, Lt. Patrick Riordan said the church passenger van carrying the children was from the Avoyelles Parish in Louisiana. They were traveling to Disney World when the crash occurred.The deceased children range in age from eight years old to teenagers. The two deceased adults were driving the tractor trailers. 1153

Amid signs that the global economy is slowing, American hiring nonetheless remains strong.In September, American employers added 136,000 jobs. The unemployment rate fell to 3.5%, which is the lowest rate since December 1969.Although the pace of hiring has slowed considerably since last year, this most recent report from the Labor Department showed some encouraging signs: Both July and August's jobs reports were revised higher by tens of thousands of jobs. Hispanic unemployment fell to 3.9%, setting a record low, while black unemployment remained at a record-low 5.5% Minority unemployment has been tracked by the Labor Department since the early 1970's.The nation's underemployment rate, which looks at people who are unemployed as well as those who are working part time but would prefer full time work, fell to 6.9%. That's the lowest reading for that measure since December 2000.The number of discouraged workers also fell was down to by more than 100,000 in September. A mother arrested in Hawaii over the disappearance of her two Idaho children who wanted a judge to reconsider her million bail had her request rejected. After Military, federal and local police joined forces to push thousands of peaceful protesters away from the White House Monday evening, the ACLU filed a lawsuit in response to the incident.
