BERLIN, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The German state of North Rhine-Westphalia said Friday it detected for the first time the deadly E.coli strain o104 on bean sprouts, after they were named the source of the outbreak by Germany's national disease control centre. "According to our knowledge, the bean sprouts are coming from the recent suspicious farm in Bienenbuettel in the state of Lower Saxony," said Johannes Remmel, consumer protection minister.The sprouts were found in an opened package which had been left in a dustbin of a family, living near the city of Bonn. The German authority said on Friday bean sprouts were probably the source of the E. coli outbreak, which has killed 30 people and infected about 3,000 around the world. Reinhard Burger, president of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Germany's national disease control center said the Robert Koch Institute was lifting its warning against eating cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce but keeping the warning in place for the sprouts."The discovery confirms our current warning against the consumption of bean sprouts. It is therefore becoming increasingly more likely that bean sprouts are the source of the E.coli infections," Remmel said.The news came after Reinhard Burger, President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), said in the morning bean sprouts were the source for the outbreak based on a epidemiological investigation."People who ate (bean) sprouts were found nine times more likely to have bloody diarrhoea or other signs of E. coli infection than those who did not," he saidHowever, no sample tests had found the o104 strain on bean sprouts when he announced that conclusion. Laboratory tests have shown Germany made mistakes in identifying the outbreak source on two previous occasions.At the same time, RKI lifted the warning against cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce."Enjoy lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. They are healthy for you," said Andreas Hensel, president of the German Federal Risk Assessment Institute (BFR), which is a co-leader in the action against E. coli.In the city of Hamburg, an epicentre for the disease, farmers protested in the city centre by offering tons of lettuce and cucumbers for free to anyone who wanted them when the news was announced. SAN FRANCISCO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Google on Tuesday introduced several new features of its search services on desktops and smartphones, which the Internet search giant said could help users get to their search results faster.SEARCH BY VOICE, IMAGESpeaking at Google's Inside Search event in San Francisco, Mike Cohen, head of the company's speech technology efforts, said its voice search is now available in 27 languages and dialects, an estimated coverage of around 5 billion people or two-thirds of world population.Voice search has already been available in Google's mobile search application from 2008. Adding the feature to desktops is part of Google's strategy to bring mobile innovations to its desktop search.The voice search on desktop performs similarly to voice search on smartphones -- users can click the microphone button and speak the query. It is only available via Google's Chrome browser for now.Cohen noted that the volume of Google mobile speech inputs has increased by six times in the last year.Also at the event, Google introduced search-by-image, which enables users to drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste image URL, or upload the image from the desktop into the search box. They can also use a Chrome or FireFox software extension to add images to the search.Google said the search-by-image feature will be available in most countries and regions over the next few days to Chrome users, noting that it will not collect and store any images that users use.

LOS ANGELES, July 6 (Xinhua) -- NASA scientists have got the first-ever, up-close details of a Saturn storm that is eight times the surface area of Earth, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory ( JPL) announced on Wednesday.The images were captured by NASA's Cassini spacecraf, according to JPL in Pasadena, Los Angeles.On Dec. 5, 2010, Cassini first detected the storm that has been raging ever since. It appears approximately 35 degrees north latitude of Saturn.The storm is the biggest observed by spacecraft orbiting or flying by Saturn. NASA's Hubble Space Telescope captured images in 1990 of an equally large storm.Pictures from Cassini's imaging cameras show the storm wrapping around the entire planet covering approximately two billion square miles (4 billion square kilometers).The storm is about 500 times larger than the biggest storm previously seen by Cassini during several months from 2009 to 2010. At its most intense, the storm generated more than 10 lightning flashes per second.Cassini has detected 10 lightning storms on Saturn since the spacecraft entered the planet's orbit.Those storms rolled through an area in the southern hemisphere dubbed "Storm Alley." "Cassini shows us that Saturn is bipolar," said Andrew Ingersoll, a Cassini imaging team member at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. "Saturn is not like Earth and Jupiter, where storms are fairly frequent. Weather on Saturn appears to hum along placidly for years and then erupt violently. I'm excited we saw weather so spectacular on our watch."The new details about this storm complement atmospheric disturbances described recently by scientists using Cassini's composite infrared spectrometer and the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope. The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. NASA's JPL manages the mission for the agency's Science Mission Directorate in Washington.
