Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The victim called 911 about 5 a.m. to report the invasion and sexual battery and told investigators the suspect ran from her home when she awoke. Officials believe the perpetrator got into the home by removing a screen from her open bedroom window.Currently, Ruiz-Sandoval is in federal custody on unrelated charges, and sheriff's detectives have obtained a separate arrest warrant, Boudreau said. 866

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public today for help in identifying two thieves who robbed a 19-year-old woman at Fashion Valley mall two weeks ago.The pair, a man and woman who appeared to be in their 20s or early 30s, grabbed the victim from behind as she was walking through a parking structure at the Friars Road shopping center shortly before 2 p.m. Aug. 10, according to San Diego police.As the man pressed a sharp object -- believed to have been a knife -- to the victim's back, his cohort demanded her cellphone and other property, then tried to pull a lanyard from around her neck.The victim slapped the other woman's hand away, preventing her from stealing the strap, but the man was able to yank a pair of Apple AirPods from the victim's ears. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspect was behind bars Wednesday in connection with a mugging that left a 73-year-old disabled woman gravely injured last week on a downtown roadside near Cortez Hill.Stanley Harris Hinton, 31, was arrested Monday on suspicion of carrying out the robbery and assault in the Core-Columbia district of San Diego, according to police.The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound suspect allegedly attacked Nannette Altevers, who uses a walker, near the corner of B Street and Fourth Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Friday.Patrol officers responding to a 911 call about the assault found the assailant gone and Altevers suffering from extensive upper body trauma, Lt. Matt Dobbs said. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, homicide detectives have taken charge of the case, the lieutenant said.Hinton was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault, robbery and elder abuse.
