Cellphone video from Friday night shows a firework going into the stands at Busch Stadium. It was recorded after the Cardinals win over the Chicago Cubs on July 27 during a scheduled “Fireworks Night” display after the game.“It just seemed like it went straight up in the air and came straight down in front us, hit a chair and some kind of rupture right in front of us,” said Natalie Carlson, who was in the stands. She said it took a moment for people to figure out what happened.“Everybody was just kind of shocked, I grabbed my friends and was like 'everybody scoot back, get under something just in case it happens again,” she added. She said they stayed and watched the entire show, not fearing for their safety. 723
CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A Carlsbad high school teacher accused of "inappropriate conduct" is denying the allegations that has forced him out of the classroom for months.About two months ago, senior Rafa Fabito said his film teacher at La Costa Canyon High School, Speed Farris, was a no-show."I thought he was just absent," said Fabito. But that absence continued without an explanation -- until now. An email was sent home to parents earlier this week confirming Harris is currently assigned to the San Dieguito Union High School District's Administrative Office amid an investigation into allegations of "inappropriate conduct toward former students." Across the La Costa Canyon campus, there was a sense of disbelief."This doesn't jive with what his typical personality is like. I wouldn't expect this from him," said Fabito.Early this school year, student Mary Harris took a literature class taught by Farris."He liked to joke around but never made anyone feel uncomfortable. Just a happy, fine guy," said Harris. Some parents told 10News they were upset it took months for the school district to inform them. As for the teacher at the center of the probe, he agreed to talk to 10News. By phone, Farris told 10News he couldn't say much, but did maintain his innocence. "These allegations are false. They're unwarranted. I've cooperated with the district investigation as much as possible. This whole process is ruining my life and my career," said Farris. 10News reached out to the San Dieguito Union High School District to find out why it took several months to inform parents, and is waiting to hear back. A San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said a criminal case has been sent over the county District Attorney's Office for review. 1764
CALABASAS, Calif. (CNS) -- A federal warrant was served Wednesday at YouTube star Jake Paul's home in Calabasas. The warrant was being served in connection with an ongoing investigation, said Laura Eimiller of the FBI's Los Angeles office. No arrests are planned, Eimiller said. Further details were not being released because the warrant is under seal, she said.Footage from an ABC7 helicopter showed multiple firearms on the property being seized by authorities, "including a long gun propped up against a hot tub in the backyard," the station reported.Eimiller declined comment on that report, indicating that an FBI statement on the operation was pending. It was unclear if Paul was at the location when FBI agents served the warrant.Paul is known for his often controversial YouTube stunts. He hosted a party at the Calabasas home a couple weeks ago that drew criticism on social media after guests were shown not wearing face coverings or social distancing. 968
CALIPATRIA, Calif. (KGTV) — Six prison guards were injured during an attack by an inmate this week, leading to the use of deadly force.Calipatria State Prison inmate Douglas Compton refused to leave an "out-of-bounds" area in the prison's yard on Thursday after three officers ordered him to do so, according to the state's Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR).Compton then stabbed one of the officers in the head and face, CDCR says. Responding officers used batons, pepper spray, and other use-of-force options to try and subdue Compton.During the struggle, Compton punched another two officers. An officer in an observation tower discharged one lethal round from a rifle to stop the attack. No one was injured by the use of lethal force, CDCR says.Six officers were injured and taken to an outside hospital for treatment and released.Compton was injured and treated, before being transferred to another prison.CDCR added that two inmate-made weapons were recovered at the scene. CDCR investigators are investigating the weapons as well as the use of deadly force.Compton was sentenced to 112 years to life in prison following a 2013 conviction of second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter with the use of a firearm and possession of a firearm by an ex-felon with the use of an altered ID. 1315
