Once a month for two years, a 55-year-old woman in Madrid had gone for acupuncture therapy using live bee stings. Apitherapy -- the medicinal use of bee hive products, including honey, pollen and bee venom -- was the woman's go-to treatment for stress and contractures, a tightening of her muscles that caused stiff joints.Live bee sting acupuncture "is a technique that is becoming more widely available" around the world, said Dr. Ricardo Madrigal-Burgaleta, senior author of a case study describing the Spanish woman's experience and previously her doctor at Madrid's Ramon y Cajal University Hospital. The case study was published in the current issue of the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology. The woman had shown no negative side effects to bee sting acupuncture, he said. In fact, her medical record recorded no history or mention of asthma, heart disease or allergies of any kind or to insects in particular. But one day, during her monthly session, the woman began to wheeze and find it difficult to breathe after the first live bee sting.Suddenly, she lost consciousness. 1114

Ohio and Michigan. Two states with intense rivalries, however when you visit, you can't help but think how much they are the same. With a combined 34 electoral college votes, both are swing states that will decide this election. Both have experienced economic hardship in recent decades and both still rely on the auto industry for jobs. Ahead of the first debate in nearby Cleveland, what are the candidates doing for the auto worker?UNION DEBATE"I am the president of UAW Local 14," Tony Toddy proudly says from his office in Toledo. Toddy, who has been with the UAW for years, recently took over the post. "We like Joe because we know Joe," Toddy says, speaking of the UAW endorsement of Joe Biden. Toddy believes Biden would listen to unions more if elected president. Toddy does not like the new trade agreement, USMCA, which President Donald Trump signed into law earlier this year. "It’s just NAFTA 2.0. Where are the jobs?" Toddy said. But Trump supporters say wait a minute. "I've worked for Ford Motor Company for 24 years," Terry Bowman, who serves as co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, said. "The American worker deserves four more years of a Trump presidency," Bowman said. Bowman said while union leadership maybe backing Biden, many on the assembly line are backing Trump. Bowman says workers like Trump's tough tough talk and believe his new trade deal is better than the alternative. ON THE ISSUESSo how do the candidates want to help the auto industry? Biden wants to shift 300,000 government cars from gas to electric, believing government investments would generate 1 million new jobs. Trump says his new USMCA trade deal will create 100,000 new jobs and that his rollback of environmental regulations will result in cheaper cars. At Inside the Five Brewery near the Michigan/Ohio line, patrons are divided heading into the debate. "I am for Biden," Marge Mizer, said. "I like an upfront person that’s going to tell me the truth," Mizer said. Meanwhile David Bartlett says he wants Trump to send a message. "I want to see President Trump destroy Joe Biden in the debate," Bartlett said. 2123

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Oceanside city officials are asking for developers to submit their bids to create an "iconic" downtown sign for the city, similar to areas of the county like the Gaslamp District, North Park, and Escondido. The city's request for proposals calls for a sign that will act as a new landmark and "the heart of the Sunset Market" at the intersection of Tremont Street and Pier View Way.The sign must be an "over-the-road" style sign that spans the intersection and aims to, "create a 'place' that locals and visitors are invited to enjoy for decades to come," the city says.Candidates can submit an initial design by January 13, 2021. The top five candidates will be granted ,000 and four weeks to flesh out their designs, budget, and other aspects. The city's Property and Business Improvement District will then choose the best three to go before a public vote. The winning design will head to the City Council for approval prior to moving into the development stage.More information on the city's request for proposals can be found online here. 1079

On the 19th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, the United States will mourn the thousands killed in the terror attacks in a series of memorials across the country.Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many of the memorial events — which have become solemn traditions in recent years — will look different in 2020. Some ceremonies will feature reduced capacity or will take place virtually to prevent the spread of the virus. In New York City, a remembrance ceremony took place at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in Lower Manhattan — the former site of the World Trade Center. The names of all those killed in the New York attack were read aloud beginning at 8 a.m., and moments of silence were held at the times when the planes hit the towers and at the times when the towers fell.In Washington, D.C., a large flag was unfurled at the Pentagon at the spot where a plane struck the building. A "virtual" ceremony will took place at the site at 9 a.m., which included Sec. of Defense Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark A. Milley.President Donald Trump participated in a somber ceremony at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Friday, delivering a speech in which he described the passengers' bravery and detailed his administration's fight against terrorism abroad. On Friday, Trump signed a proclamation commemorating "the lives of those who perished on September 11, 2001, we pray for the families who carry on their legacies, and we honor the unmatched bravery of our Nation’s first responders. We also commend those who, in the days and years following the attack, answered the call to serve our country and continue to risk their lives in defense of the matchless blessings of freedom." 1720
