SAN DEIGO (KGTV)-- Millions of students from around the world skipped class and took to the streets to call attention to climate change. San Diego was one of more than 3,600 locations that held the global Climate Change Walkout. Hundreds of teenagers marched from San Diego High School in Downtown to the San Diego Civic Center, hoping to make an impact, three days before the United Nations Climate Change Summit. It's a fight against time. Time, they say, the planet does not have. "Climate change is the existential threat of our generation," Elea Castiglione said. The sophomore at San Deigo High School organized the walkout with her friends. She and hundreds of students hoped their actions would inspire world leaders to take aggressive steps to combat climate change. Point Loma High School senior, Kisi Apaak performed her spoken-word piece, "Madness," at the San Diego Civic Center rally. Being 17, she said she does not have an income, nor does she have the right to vote. She said spoken-word is her way to show Mother Nature that she cares."This is all I know how to do, is write and talk and get out and take action," Apaak said. Many said they were inspired by Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist, who has now become the face of the movement. Activists here said San Diegans should be more involved, considering our geography."I think that San Diego as a city needs to go carbon neutral, and we also need to be leaders as a coastal city in our protest for nationwide and global change," Castiglione said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A bicyclist riding with a group of cyclists was seriously injured Saturday when he was struck by a motorcycle in Pacific Beach, police said.The collision happened at 3:14 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Reed Avenue, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.A 23-year-old man riding a 2017 Harley Davidson Sportster was southbound in the 4200 block of Ingraham as a group of cyclists were eastbound in the 1500 block of Reed Avenue, Buttle said.The cyclists entered the intersection and the motorcycle struck one of them, a 49-year-old man, the officer said.The motorcyclist suffered road rash to his right leg, Buttle said. The bicyclist suffered a broken left femur and broken ribs. Medics took the cyclist to a hospital.Officers from the SDPD traffic division were investigating the collision, Buttle said.Ingraham was closed in both directions at Thomas and Oliver avenues and was expected to last a couple of hours, the SDPD said. 1012

June had reached its own high mark, with a more than 20 percent increase in sales over May.Existing homes are defined as single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops.With July’s increase, to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.86 million, purchases are now up 8.7% from a year ago. In July 2019, there were 5.39 million sales.“The housing market is well past the recovery phase and is now booming with higher home sales compared to the pre-pandemic days,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist. “With the sizable shift in remote work, current homeowners are looking for larger homes and this will lead to a secondary level of demand even into 2021.”Total housing inventory at the end of July totaled 1.5 million units, a year ago there were 1.9 million available units.“More homes need to be built,” Yun said in a statement on NAR’s website.Properties are staying on the market for an average of 22 days.
