A wallet-sized card with a picture of a young girl in West Michigan on the front may not mean much, but once flipped over the card’s intent is revealed.It asks people to pay it forward.“When we see the cards, we’re sad, but we’re happy because people look at the card and see our daughter,” said Cindi Rasmussen.Cindi and her husband, Mark, are the parents of the girl on the card.Her name is Molly.The parents describe the 16-year-old Forest Hills East student as fun-loving, social, and always on the go.“My favorite line of mine was, ‘When you finish what you’re doing, can you take me to Starbucks? Or can you take me to the gas station to get candy?’” Mark remembered.But this past June, everything stopped for the family.Molly died while swimming with a friend at Lake Bella Vista in Cannon Township. According to her parents, Molly was an epileptic and had a seizure in the water.“There’s not a day or a second that I don’t think about her,” said Mark.“That whole night was awful,” said Cindi.However, in the midst of their grief came Molly’s Cards, which encourage people to perform a small task, like opening a door or paying for coffee, in honor of the Grand Rapids native.Cindi says one of her former co-workers created Molly's Cards after Cindi asked people to pay it forward in lieu of sending more flowers to their family.The family estimates more than 1,000 Molly’s Cards have been distributed already. A total of 30 have become sick, including 10 deaths, in connection with an adenovirus outbreak at a New Jersey health care facility, the state's Department of Health announced Monday.All but one case are children with weakened immune systems and other serious medical issues, many of whom require assistance to breathe and function, at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, New Jersey.The confirmed cases became ill between September 26 and November 5, according to the health department. A rare blue lobster made its way to a Red Lobster restaurant in Ohio recently, and nearly landed on a customer’s dinner plate. But thanks to a sharp-eyed employee, the blue lobster was spotted in the restaurant’s tank.Blue lobsters are incredibly rare – only one out of 2 million lobsters are blue lobsters.The nearby Akron Zoo has since taken over care of the lobster, and is preparing a new home for it.“The blue coloration of the shell is the result of a genetic anomaly,” the Akron Zoo said.The lobster has been given the name “Clawde,” which is said to be the restaurant’s mascot. 593

A north Georgia high school teacher was arrested on Wednesday after he barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a shot from his handgun out of a window, police said.No one was injured in the incident at Dalton High School, except for a student who injured an ankle running through the school, police spokesman Bruce Frazier said.The shooting about 85 miles north of Atlanta heightened the already tense debate around guns in schools in the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Florida two weeks ago.The incident began about 11:30 a.m. when Randal Davidson, a 53-year-old social studies teacher, refused to let students into his classroom, Frazier said. When the principal put a key in the door in an attempt to enter, Davidson fired a shot from a handgun through an exterior window of the classroom, according to Frazier.The school immediately went into lockdown, and police quickly arrived and evacuated the immediate area around his classroom. After about 30 to 45 minutes, Davidson agreed to surrender to authorities and was taken into custody without further incident, Frazier said.Frazier said there was no evidence that Davidson was trying to fire at anyone."It certainly seemed like he didn't have any intention to harm anybody else," Frazier said.Davidson had been a teacher at Dalton since 2004 and was the play-by-play radio announcer for the high school's football team, Frazier said.
