SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California police say a man brandished what they later learned was a fake gun during a standoff that resulted in the evacuation of a hotel. The Sacramento Bee reported guests were evacuated from a Comfort Inn in Red Bluff early Saturday during a standoff between police and a domestic violence suspect. The Red Bluff Police Department said in a release that 21-year-old Christian Sandoval-Perez of Corning faces multiple charges including child abuse and domestic violence. Gavin Newsom on Friday signed a law that will make the state the first to allow employers, co-workers and teachers to seek gun violence restraining orders against other people.The bill was vetoed twice by former governor Jerry Brown, a Democrat, and goes beyond a measure that he signed allowing only law enforcement officers and immediate family members to ask judges to temporarily take away peoples' guns when they are deemed a danger to themselves or others.They were among 15 gun-related laws Newsom approved as the state strengthens what the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence calls the nation's toughest restrictions."California has outperformed the rest of the nation, because of our gun safety laws, in reducing the gun murder rate substantially compared to the national reduction," Newsom said as he signed the measures surrounded by state lawmakers. Anthony’s headstone will see something new this year: a plastic cover.Her headstone, in a cemetery in Rochester, New York, now has a shield to prevent further degradation to the marble from the stickers’ glue and the cleaners used to remove the stickers.The sticker trend became popular on Election Day 2016, when as many as 12,000 people visited the cemetery where Anthony is buried.A spring restoration effort had revealed the damage done to the marble marker.This year, WHAM reports that city officials have also marked off a pathway for visitor to follow so they don’t disrupt other gravesites.
