BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and Vietnam held a reception in Beijing on Friday to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.     Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said China and Vietnam were friendly neighbors, which had frequent high-level visits, broad trade and economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.     Chen said the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) on Jan. 1, 2010 will further boost the mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Vietnam. HAIKOU, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's southern island province of Hainan saw a surge in travelers on Saturday, one day before the Chinese Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, said local officials.A total of 65,397 people arrived in Hainan, a tourist resort, on Saturday, up 30.16 percent from the eve of the Chinese lunar new year of 2009, according to a spokesman with the local holiday and travel coordination bureau.A survey of 10 scenic spots in Hainan showed they received about 41,750 visitors on Saturday and their total ticket income hit 2.07 million yuan (303,000 U.S.dollars), up 7.32 percent and 12.37 percent respectively from the eve of the last Spring Festival, the spokesman said.Another survey of Hainan's 21 hotels showed they accommodated 6,101 travelers on Saturday, and reported an income of 5.04 million yuan, up 26.21 percent, he said.From Feb. 1 to Feb. 13, more than 3,800 foreign travelers arrived in Hainan for a holiday, according to statistics from the Haikou General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection."I am very happy to spend Spring Festival in such a beautiful island. I hope more foreign travelers could experience the Chinese traditional festival here," said Daniel Sanchez, a Spanish traveler.Last month, the central government announced a plan to build the island into a top international tourist destination by 2020.

BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen earlier this month expressed his appreciation for Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's important and constructive role in the Copenhagen conference, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.Rasmussen made the remarks in a letter to Wen on Feb. 12, said spokesman Qin Gang at a regular press conference.Premier Wen on Jan. 29 wrote a letter in reply to Rasmussen concerning the Copenhagen Accord, reiterating China's support for the Accord and the country's climate change commitments.Wen said in the letter that the Copenhagen Accord which resulted from the UN climate change conference in the Danish capital last year laid the foundation for advancing international cooperation on climate change and enabled future negotiations to take place.Rasmussen replied on Feb. 12 that he fully agreed with Wen on his evaluation, saying that he was inspired by China's support for the Accord, Qin said.The Chinese government had reported its emission cuts progress to the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reaffirming a reduction of carbon dioxide emission intensity per unit of GDP by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 against 2005 levels.Rasmussen welcomed the China's emission cuts progress. He also agreed with Wen on adhering to the main role of the UNFCCC in future negotiations, Qin said.China hoped Denmark, as chair of the Conference of UNFCCC Parties, would continue to play a positive role, Qin said, noting that the country would maintain contacts with Denmark.In Tuesday's press conference, Qin also responded to a question related to UN climate chief's announcement of resignation.Yvo de Boer has announced last week that he will resign his position as Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC as of July 1 this year.Qin said de Boer had contributed positively in organizing and serving the international negotiations on climate change since assuming his current post in 2006.China had cooperated well with the UNFCCC secretariat, and supported de Boer's efforts, Qin said. SHANGHAI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's economic hub Shanghai in December posted the first year-on-year growth in both imports and exports in 14 months, indicating further recovery from the economic downturn, local customs said Sunday.     Last month, Shanghai's foreign trade stood at 30.7 billion U.S. dollars, a growth of 35.3 percent over the same month of 2008. This was the second year-on-year growth of foreign trade in two consecutive months in the city, the sources said.     Exports in particular, which stood at 15.21 billion U.S. dollars, reported the first year-on-year growth of 23.5 percent since November 2008, while imports surged 49.5 percent, up from the 26.7 percent growth rate in the previous month.     Last month saw the city's trade with the European Union, the United States and Japan up 15.4 percent, 36.8 percent and 19.8 percent, respectively.     However, Shanghai's foreign trade in total last year went down 13.8 percent from 2008 to 277.73 billion U.S. dollars due to the economic crisis effect. The total included 141.91 billion dollars in exports, down 16.2 percent, and 135.82 billion dollars in imports, down 11.1 percent.
