BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- CNC World, the English-language channel of Xinhua News Agency's TV arm, CNC, will reach cable television audiences in Africa from Jan. 1, 2011, according to an agreement signed Friday between CNC and South Africa-based MIH Group.The English-language channel of China Xinhua News Network Corporation (CNC) will be available to 4 million African families through MIH's cable network.Xinhua President Li Congjun met Koos Bekker, founder of MIH, before the signing of the agreement. Both sides expressed their hope CNC will be a competitive and influential international media organization.On Thursday, Xinhua signed an agreement with Eutelsat Communications to extend the coverage of CNC to all of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa from Jan. 1, 2011, through Eutelsat Communications' Eurobird, Hotbird and W7 satellites.CNC World broadcasts English news programs 24 hours a day and covers breaking news and major political, economic and cultural news from around the world.Launched in 2009, CNC has developed into a television network with satellite services in the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe and Africa.It is also expanding its cable television and new media services and provides news programs to about 300 domestic and overseas television organizations.

BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- A senior official from China's Ministry of Commerce called for enhanced trade and economic cooperation between China and the European Union (EU), prior to Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang's upcoming visit to three EU nations.In a recent interview with the People's Daily, Ministry of Commerce International Trade Representative Gao Hucheng reviewed the current trade and economic relationship between China and the EU, pinpointing the areas where more efforts could be made on both sides to further cooperation.In an article published in Wednesday's People's Daily, Gao said that in the past 35 years since China and the EU forged diplomatic ties, the relations between the two sides went from "constructive partnership" to "comprehensive partnership" and the now "comprehensive strategic partnership."The article was published about a week before Vice Premier Li sets out to visit Spain, Germany and Britain on Jan. 4-12.Trade between China and the European Union has become one of the most active and influential bilateral relations in the world, said Gao.Leaders of China and the European Union have been exchanging official visits frequently, said he. This year alone, seven of top Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, paid official visits to over a dozen EU countries.Meanwhile, some 65 high-level delegations from the EU and its member states visited China in 2010.Trade cooperation between China and the EU has been speeding up, Gao said. When China established diplomatic relations with the EU in 1975, annual trade was at 2.4 billion U.S. dollars, the volume of about two days between two sides this year. In the past 35 years, trade volume has grown over 150 times.According to China's statistics, China-EU trade amounted to 433.9 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of this year, up 33.1 percent from last year, a growth rate higher than that of China-Japan and China-U.S. trade.According to statistics released by the EU, its exports to China rose 4 percent in 2009 despite the economic recession and decreased export to the rest of the world. EU's total investment in China has exceeded 70 billion U.S. dollars so far, making the EU China's third largest source of foreign investment.Communication between people on two sides has grown substantially over the years. Nowadays nearly 200,000 Chinese students are studying in the EU countries and some 150,000 EU nationals are working in China. Over a million Chinese tourists travel to the EU countries every year.Gao pointed out that as the largest developing country in the world with fast economic growth, China could forge complimentary economic ties with the EU, as they stand at different places in economic development.On future economic policies, Gao said China was commited to expanding its domestic demand, adjusting its economic structure, and continuing its open-door policy, which is indispensable to China's development. ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union (AU) Ramtane Lamamra, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Ethiopia Gu Xiaojie on Friday signed an agreement on the provision of aid to the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).The grant amounting to 30 million RMB, (over 4 million U.S. dollars), will be used to supply equipment and materials for AMISOM. The signing of this agreement comes in the wake of the adoption by the United Nations Security Council, on Dec. 22, of resolution 1964(2010), in which it, inter alia, requested the Secretary- General to continue to provide a logistical support package for AMISOM, for a maximum troop strength of 12,000, as called for by resolution 1863 (2009).In resolution 1964(2010), the Security Council also called on UN Member States and regional and international organizations to make direct bilateral donations in support of AMISOM.By generously providing aid to AMISOM, the People's Republic of China is responding to the call made by the United Nations Security Council and the earlier appeal by the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) for AU partners to support the ongoing efforts in Somalia, AU said in a statement. Gu Xiaojie reiterated China's continued commitment to strengthen its cooperation with the AU in the area of peace and security and to support all endeavors in this regard. He lauded AU's efforts and resolve towards the promotion of peace, security and reconciliation in Somalia.Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Lamamra stated said that "China has, over the years, been providing multifaceted assistance to the AU and African countries as they strive to address the many challenges facing the continent.
