A 19-year-old man walked out of an Ohio court after being sentenced Wednesday and led police on a chase before crashing.Authorities said Cyrus Matthews, 19, appeared at the courthouse in Wadsworth to be sentenced to 90 days in jail for a criminal damaging charge and a reckless operations chargeMatthews allegedly told authorities he was not going to jail.He fled the courthouse after Judge Stephen Mcllvaine read his sentencing. Matthews got in the driver's seat of a vehicle outside Wadsworth City Hall. There was a person in the passenger's seat who authorities say he knew. After fleeing the courthouse, he led police on a chase, striking several cars.The chase ended in a bad crash and reported entrapment. Five people from several vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that appeared to be not life-threatening, according to police. 912

(KGTV) — Washington state health officials say a patient has died of the novel coronavirus, the first COVID-19 related death in the United States.The victim was described as a male patient at EvergreenHealth Medical Center, who was in his 50s with underlying medical conditions.The governor of Washington state declared a state of emergency Saturday after a man's death.More than 50 people in a Kirkland, Wash., Life Care nursing facility are sick and being tested for the virus, health officials added. (KGTV) One of the biggest city-owned office spaces sits vacant and may do so for a little while longer.The City of San Diego acquired the 19-story tower at 101 Ash St. in the beginning of last year in effort to consolidate staff into a new space, but various delays have kept the renovation from being completed.Officials signed a lease-to-own contract for the old Sempra Energy building and have been paying more 5,000 a month plus operational costs since January of 2017.The city was supposed to move in July 2017 and the estimated daily cost for the vacant structure is a little less than ,000.“I do believe the city has bungled this decision from the beginning starting with the purchase,” said San Diego City Councilmember Barbara Bry.Bry was elected to council after officials voted to acquire the building for million and says the issue can be traced to how city staff briefed council just before the purchase.“At the time city staff told the council that the building was in excellent shape and the million in tenant improvements was enough,” added Bry.Records indicate the city has paid more than million in rent and roughly million in operating costs since taking over the property.Bry is working behind the scenes to mitigate the matter before the costs balloon any more, but estimates it will be at least six months until staff can move into the 101 Ash Street building.The City of San Diego says more than 1,100 employees will work there when the renovation is complete and they plan to move into the building sometime in fiscal year 2019 — which begins in July. 1617

A bipartisan effort to re-start discussions for a federal COVID-19 relief package has been met with stiff opposition in congress.A coalition called the Problem Solver Caucus, composed of about 50 lawmakers half from each party, put forth a .5 trillion relief package earlier this week. It would have included ,200 stimulus checks for Americans similar to payments sent out earlier this year.The plan contains many elements of rescue packages devised by both House Democrats and Republicans controlling the Senate, including aid to schools, funding for state and local governments, and renewal of lapsed COVID-related jobless benefits.Discussions between Democratic leadership and the administration over a relief bill broke down last month.Since then, Senate Republicans put forth and failed to pass a 0 billion proposal. Instead, the company says it will focus on preparing Peeps for next Easter, according to Pennlive.com.Just Born suspended production of the candies last spring as the coronavirus pandemic began, before resuming limited production in May with safety protocols in place for employees.“This situation resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to forego production of our seasonal candies for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day in order to focus on meeting the expected overwhelming demand for Peeps for next Easter season, as well as our everyday candies,” the company told Pennlive.The company's other holiday treats — including Mike and Ike, and Hot Tamales — will also be missing this year, but it expects its seasonal candies to return to shelves by Halloween 2021.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 1072
