HANGZHOU, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- As China is seeking to bridge its urban-rural digital divide, this year's World Internet Conference (WIC) shares China's experience on poverty alleviation through the Internet with guests overseas.

The 2018 China Spokespersons Forum, sponsored by the State Council Information Office (SCIO) and organized by the National Institute of Strategic Communication at Peking University, was attended by more than 100 spokespersons, scholars and representatives of news organizations.

"The Chinese concept of human rights conforms to the public opinion, reflects the requirements of the times, embodies the spirit of innovation, and expresses the aspirations of the vast number of developing countries," he said.

He also called for joint efforts to build an open world economy. "All countries should be committed to opening up and oppose protectionism and unilateralism in a clear-cut stand," Xi stressed.

Berthold Kuhn, a China expert at the Free University of Berlin, said both China and the United States have made tremendous efforts to achieve such results, which is the first step for both sides to avoid a trade war.
