BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- East Star Airlines Co., Ltd. said Saturday here that its current combined debt surpassed 752 million yuan (110.1 million U.S. dollars).     Zhao Changbing, spokesperson of the company, said the announcement was made to counter rumors about the status quo of the company's assets and debt     Zhao said total assets of the company stood at 1.01 billion yuan.     Established in 2005 in central Hubei Province, East Star Airlines operated more than 20 routes. Its operation was suspended by the industry regulator as of March 15 this year, due to financial difficulties of the carrier.

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's joint prevention and control tactic has been proved to be powerful, orderly and effective in fighting the spreading of A/H1N1 virus, said Vice-Premier Li Keqiang while he presided over a conference on the issue Friday.     The tactic has helped the nation win time and initiative in the efforts to deal with the epidemic, which has protected the people's health rights, reduced its impacts on economy and society in a maximal way, and provided favorable conditions for the country's development, said the official, who is also member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau. Li conveyed the instructions of Hu Jintao, state president and general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and Premier Wen Jiabao on the issue. He said the situation of the epidemic has been under control in the country. BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The international community has continued to condemn the July 5 riots in Urumqi, the capital of China's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which has left 192 people dead.     Religious leaders and some experts also voiced support for the joint efforts by the Chinese government and various ethnic groups to safeguard ethnic unity and social stability.     Regional leaders of two major Islamic organizations -- Nahdatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah -- in the Indonesian city of Surabaya said Islam advocates peace and opposes violence.     Muslims love peace, pursue peace and take real actions to maintain peace and oppose any violent and terrorist actions, they said Tuesday while meeting Wang Huagen, Chinese general consulate in Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city.     The two Islamic leaders also expressed the hope that social order in Urumqi could be restored soon.     Pierre Picard, a human geologist and China expert at the University of Paris, said he was shocked by the July 5 incident which was a violent crime orchestrated by foreign terrorists and separatist forces.     China has the right to take actions to maintain national stability and restore social order and the measures it has taken were appropriate, he told Xinhua.     No country in the world can tolerate attacks by terrorist forces, he added.     The Al-Riyadh newspaper, one of the leading newspapers in Saudi Arabia, said in a report on Tuesday that the July 5 incident in Xinjiang was a crime of violence that was premeditated and organized.     The unrest was not an ethnic issue nor a religious one, but a case against public order incited by a few separatists and mobs, it stressed.     Bahrain's Al-Ayam newspaper shared the view. In     a report published on Tuesday, it said the incident was by no means an ethnic or religious issue, but a grave violent crime involving beating,     smashing, looting and burning premeditated, organized and instigated by the separatist forces both in and outside China.     The purpose of the separatists is to sabotage ethnic unity and social stability in Xinjiang, said the report.     The local government of the autonomous region has adopted effective measures in accordance with law to stop the violent crimes in a bid to safeguard social stability and resume normal social order as well as protect local people's rights and interests, it said.     The report said that the Chinese government had introduced and carried out a series of ethnic and religious policies since the People's Republic of China was established.     China always sticks to the principle of protecting ethnic minorities equal rights and safeguarding ethnic solidarity, and is firmly opposed to ethnic discrimination and oppression of any ethnic group as well as any activities aimed at undermining ethnic unity, it said.     China has always valued the role played by Islamic countries and attached great importance to its friendly relations with them, the report said, adding that such relations will be further cemented through joint efforts by both sides.

GUANGZHOU, May 30 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province reported one suspected A/H1N1 flu case late Saturday.     The case involved a 23-year-old Chinese Venezuelan. The female college student left Venezuela Tuesday and flied to Guangzhou, Guangdong's capital, Wednesday via Paris, and her relative drove her home in Foshan City, the provincial health department said.     She took a rest at home after showing flu symptoms Thursday and was sent to Foshan No.1 People's Hospital Friday.     Early Saturday, the woman was tested positive for A/H1N1 flu by the Foshan Center of Disease Control and Prevention. The Provincial Center of Disease Control and Prevention reexamined Saturday noon and the result was also positive. The case needs further testing.     China Saturday reported three new influenza A/H1N1 cases, bringing to 24 the total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland.     The one in the southeastern province of Fujian involved a local who studied in Canada. The other two in Beijing involved a Chinese American and a Chinese student who studied in the United States.     All the cases but one on the mainland were found shortly after they came from countries hard hit by the A/H1N1 flu epidemic. Seven were in Beijing, four in Shanghai, six in Guangdong, three in Fujian, and one each in Sichuan, Shandong, Zhejiang and Hunan.     Eight cases have been discharged from hospital by Saturday afternoon, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).     China raised vigilance against influenza A/H1N1 Friday after a patient in southern Guangdong Province was declared the first case of local transmission on the mainland. Medical experts are investigating into and analyzing the local transmission.     The patient, a 24-year-old woman living in Guangdong's capital city of Guangzhou, was believed to be infected by a man from New York on Monday. Guangdong provincial department of health confirmed both as A/H1N1 flu cases Friday noon.     Her flu symptoms have eased, Yin Zhibiao, deputy president of the Guangzhou No. 8 People's Hospital, said Saturday. But as the mainland's first case of local transmission, she would likely stay longer in hospital, Yin added.
