SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A power outage was reported Thursday at several buildings on the San Diego State University campus. The outage started about 3:30 p.m. and impacted Hepner Hall, East Commons, Administration, Physical Sciences and the Faculty Staff Club, SDSU reported online. An hour later, campus officials said the outage was caused by flooding the basement of the Physical Sciences building.By 5:17 p.m., power had been restored to Hepner Hall, East Commons, Adams Humanities, Administration and the Faculty Staff Club buildings. Crews were still working to restore power to the Physical Sciences building.“Facilities Services is aware of the issue and actively working to restore power,” the university posted. “If you are in or around the impacted buildings, please remain where you are, and in a safe location,” officials requested. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A pet parrot gave its owner quite the scare after flying up into a tall tree in La Jolla.The owner, Katie Anthony, said she camped under the tree all night worried about her African Grey parrot named "Sidekick." Anthony said the bird is domesticated and not used to being in the wild.Anthony called the San Diego Fire Department and crews came out to investigate. SDFD Capt. Margot Johnson - who was retiring Wednesday - climbed up to retrieve the bird, but it took a couple tries to get it down. At one point, another firefighter fought off a falcon in the process."We really appreciate it and very very thankful because we didn't think we were ever going to see him again," Anthony said.Sidekick is now safe and sound. According to AAA, 31 people were injured in DUI-related crashes last year over Labor Day weekend.Statewide, eight people were killed in DUI crashes last year. “While alcohol-related crash fatalities have dropped in the last three years over this holiday, injuries have risen,” said Auto Club Traffic Safety Manager Anita Lorz Villagrana.“We want to remind everyone to make a plan before celebrating – use a rideshare service, stay at a hotel or someone’s home, or designate a sober driver. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A rash of mail tampering incidents has led to missing money and an unusual M.O.On Winnebago Avenue in late June, Kelly Craig was standing in front of her home talking to a neighbor."Around 10:30 a.m., the mail carrier dropped off the mail in front of me," said Craig.A few minutes later, Craig got her mail and noticed something. One of her envelopes was sliced open on the side. "Looks like a razor blade slit the side," said Craig.Inside, she found a birthday card from her mother, mailed from Montana. The usual money was not there. A call to mom revealed 0 in cash should have been inside."Felt panicked and really sad the money was missing, and my mom was really upset," said Craig.Craig wasn't alone. That same day, less than two miles away, her daughter-in-law went to get her mail."She got a wedding card from my sister, and it had cash in it as well," said Craig.The 0 that was inside was gone. That envelope was also sliced open on the left side, but there was one difference. The side and back of the enveloped were resealed with tape."Clearly trying to cover up their stealing of the money," said Craig.When Craig and her daughter-in-law reported it to postal authorities, they say they were told of similar recent incidents, including one if the College Area. On the Nextdoor app , several neighbors also reporting similar incidents. It's easier,” says Alejandra Martinez. She’s one of the employees at the Hotel del Coronado who has opted for the hotel's cross-border HMO health plan called SIMNSA, which is licensed by the State of California.“[Are you] saving like 60 to 80%?” we ask. “Oh, yes,” she responds.Christina Carrillo is the president and CEO of SIMNSA.
