Xi, an avid football fan, noted that the Chinese government attached great significance to the development of football and provided strong and consistent support for the sport, although China lagged far behind traditional football powerhouses for years in terms of both the sport's domestic popularity and competence on the pitch.
"I'm convinced that the forthcoming visit of President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to Russia in July will give an additional impetus to cooperation in various fields and will allow us to come closer to the goal of bringing mutual trade to 200 billion dollars by 2020," Oreshkin said.
He also called for joint efforts from the two countries to promote stability, opening-up, international trade and investment, sending a positive signal to the world.
