Based on public comments during the Kansas City Parks and Recreation community input sessions, it's clear that there is broad support for changing the name of an iconic fountain and parkway. It’s also clear that there doesn’t seem to be a consensus as to what the name of the J.C. Nichols Fountain and in Mill Creek Park, which is located just east of the Country Club Plaza, should be changed.Nor is there a timeline for considering any possible changes.Parks Board Commissioner Chris Goode proposed renaming the J.C. Parkway, which runs between the Plaza and the park north from West 47th Street to West 43rd Street, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a June 9 commission meeting. He also proposed renaming the fountain to Dream Fountain, a nod to King’s famed “I Have A Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.Several major Kansas City-area civic groups issued a statement in support of Goode’s proposed changes, but the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Kansas City said it doesn’t believe the parkway is an appropriate place to honor King. The KC Parks and Rec Board of Commissioners do not plan to introduce a formal resolution regarding a possible name change at its next meeting, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30.Currently, there is no timeline for when, or if, the board will address the possibility of renaming the fountain and parkway. The effort to rename the fountain is not new. A petition drive to rename the fountain and street also took place last November.KSHB was first to report this story. 1567

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (KGTV) -- A new study released this July says ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are actually contributing to heavier traffic. The study, conducted by Schaller?Consulting, found that ride-sharing companies compete mainly with public transportation, walking and biking. So instead of taking a bus or train, customers use services that put more vehicles on the road. The study found that even services like UberPOOL and Lyft Shared Rides, while claiming to reduce traffic, still add mileage to city streets and do not offset the impacts of UberX and Lyft. The shared rides add to traffic because, according to the study, users are switching from non-auto modes of travel like biking.According to the data, the metropolitan areas of Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C. are home to 70 percent of Uber and Lyft trips. It’s not all bad news though. The study also found that ride-share services can help provide support for seniors, people with low incomes and those with disabilities. In addition, the same companies show promise in providing subsidized connections to different forms of public transportation. 1229

Before he was set to face his former team, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Dez Bryant has tested positive with COVID-19 and will not play against the Dallas Cowboys.Bryant, who confirmed the news himself on Twitter, said he was pulled from warmups about 30 minutes before kickoff to get tested for COVID, which came back positive."Tell me why they pull me from warming up so I can go get tested... my s*** come back positive... I tested positive for Covid WTF."According to Dallas Cowboys beat writer Nick Eatman, Bryant was scratched from the game with an illness. After tweeting he had tested positive for COVID-19, Bryant said he was done for the season."Yea I’m going to go ahead and call it a quit for the rest of the season...
