BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -  A Green Country, Oklahoma couple got the opportunity of a lifetime, a free wedding from perfect strangers planned in a day."It's all because of God that all of this has happened," said Willow Creek Mansion owner Cortney Gertner.The sun set outside the Broken Arrow mansion Wednesday evening, but the excitement inside was rising. "I didn't think we would find a bride and groom," said Poppy's Garden owner Meagan Ferren.This all started with her leftover flowers from a photo shoot a few days before."She was going to throw all of the flowers away and I was like, you can't just throw all of those beautiful flowers away," Gertner said."I was like, I know it's going to make me absolutely sick to my stomach," Ferren said.But Ferren had an idea."Then she was like, no we should find somebody that wants to get married in the next day or two and I said, seriously? And she was like, yea, you should post something about that."Gertner put the post on the mansion's Facebook page offering a free wedding in just two days."Whenever I went to my Facebook app It was the first thing I'd seen," said bride Karissa Alexander, who said she thought it was hilarious."I sent it to him as a joke.""She kind of sent it to me laughing, you know. So I sent it back, 'do it,'" said then, fiance Tyler Alexander.He was kidding, of course.But it was too late.Just 24 hours later, Karissa's bridal suite was buzzing."It was actually setup for September of last year and we postponed it for this year."Reflecting on a trying year that left her handcrafted wedding dress sitting in her mother's closet waiting indefinitely for the day Tyler could finally see it.The moment, was unforgettable."Everything that's happened has been, I just feel like it's a God thing," Ferren said.Everything coming together for the anniversary date that chose them.The day, planned in a day, is one they'll never forget.Karissa and Tyler said they're extremely grateful to every vendor and professional that dedicated their talents for free to their special day: Willow Creek Mansion (Venue), Poppy's Garden (Florist), Tracie Carlton Event Planning & Design (Officiant husband Matt), Katrina Wheeler Photography (photographer), Laurannae Baking Co. Ben Watkins died at the age of 14 from a rare form of cancer, after capturing the country’s attention in 2018 competing on MasterChef Junior.Watkins reportedly died in a Chicago area children’s hospital Monday, according to the family’s attorney. Watkins had a rare illness called Angiomatoid Fibrous Histiocytoma. Only six people in the world have been diagnosed with it, according to the family.“Our Ben went home to be with his mother this afternoon after a year-and-a-half-long battle with Cancer. After losing both of his parents in September 2017, we have marveled at Ben’s strength, courage and love for life. He never, ever complained. Ben was and will always be the strongest person we know,” reads a statement from the family on a GoFundMe page for Watkins.Shortly before Watkins’ appearance on MasterChef, when he was just 11 years old, his parents both died in a murder-suicide in 2017. He was cared for by an uncle and family members, according to reports.Just after his 13th birthday, Watkins was diagnosed with the rare cancer, with a soft tissue tumor. Chef Gordon Ramsay posted his tribute to the young chef on social media. Ramsay hosted the cooking competition show, and worked with Watkins in season 6.“Ben you were an incredibly talented home cook and even stronger young man. Toby MacFarlane is accused of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get his children into USC. The documents show that MacFarlane reportedly paid an agency to fabricate a soccer profile for his daughter and a basketball profile for his son.MacFarlane reportedly paid 0,000 to various organizations for the admissions. His daughter attended the school from 2014 to 2018 when she graduated, according to the documents. His son attended the school from 2017 to 2018.RELATED: Two San Diegans charged in college admissions schemeMacFarlane is being charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.Another San Diegan is also accused of participating in the scheme. BALTIMORE, Md. -- On Thursday, Maryland will become the first state in the country to ban foam containers for all schools and restaurants in the state.Some counties throughout the Baltimore area have already made the move to ban Styrofoam. Baltimore County is not one of them, but some restaurants have already taken the initiative to go green.More eco-friendly to-go options at restaurants tend to be a little more expensive, but Styrofoam can't be recycled and doesn't break down, so it's considered an environmental issue.There is already a foam ban in Baltimore City, as well as Montgomery, Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties.In addition to the foam ban on Thursday, Howard County is charging five cents for plastic bags in another effort to be sustainable.It's a lot less than the 0 fine that restaurants could face for violating the foam ban.The foam ban was originally planned for July, but because of the pandemic, state officials pushed it back to October to give restaurants a little more time to adapt.This story was originally published by Erin MacPherson at WMAR. 1094
