PARIS, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon agreed on Wednesday that China and France should further consolidate bilateral ties and expand economic cooperation.During a meeting held at Fillon's office, Fillon said Wu's visit will strengthen the traditional friendship between Paris and Beijing and promote the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership to a new stage.Wu, who is conducting an eight-day official goodwill visit to France, said China and France share common interests in many areas. TORONTO, Canada, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders of the Group of Twenty (G20) members gathered in Toronto on Sunday for the group's fourth summit, which will focus on ways to secure the world economic recovery and address the economic challenges and risks.At the summit, the leaders will exchange views on ways to consolidate the recovery from the global economic and financial crisis and implement commitments from previous G20 summits while laying the foundation for sustainable and balanced growth.They will discuss a wide range of issues, including the world economic situation, the European debt crisis, "the Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth," the reform of the international financial institutions, the global trade and the strengthening of financial regulations, said a senior Chinese official.At the Pittsburgh summit, leaders of G20 members agreed to take action to address imbalances in the global economy by launching the Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth. The framework committed G20 members to evaluating their national policies to ensure they are collectively consistent with more sustainable and balanced trajectories of growth.President Hu is expected to deliver a speech at the summit to explain China's propositions on the world's major economic and financial issues, such as financial reforms and balanced economic growth, said Chinese officials.The Chinese president has participated in all the previous G20 summits -- the Washington summit in November 2008, the London summit in April 2009 and the Pittsburgh summit last September.The Toronto summit is being held at a time when the world economy is recovering but economic challenges and risks remain, posing threats to healthy growth."The global economy continues to recover faster than anticipated, although at an uneven pace across countries and regions. ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 9 (Xinhua)-- Premier Wen Jiabao has urged rescuers to race against time to search survivors after catastrophic mudslides hit a northwest China county and left nearly 1,300 people missing Sunday.At least 127 people have been confirmed dead and 1,294 others were reported missing in rain-triggered mudslides in Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province, early Sunday morning."For those who were buried under the debris, now it's the most crucial time to save their lives," Wen stressed during a meeting held at the county government late Sunday night.He said the search and rescue work must not be halted as long as the possibility for finding survivors still exists.He instructed the rescuers to locate places where most people were buried or trapped and to clean the sludge as soon as possible.Wen also demanded that traffic, power supply and telecommunication in the county should be resumed as soon as possible."And people who have been evacuated should be taken good care of," Wen stressed.

CHANGCHUN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Floods have left 85 people dead and 66 missing in northeast China's Jilin Province over the past two months, local authorities said Saturday.More than 5 million people have been affected since the flood season began in June and some 1.5 million people have been evacuated, the Jilin Provincial Civil Affairs Department said in a statement.Additionally, almost 82,000 houses have collapsed and 198,000 others have been damaged, the statement said.Soldiers pack stones to reinforce a bank in Yongji County, northeast China's Jilin Province, Aug. 4, 2010.
