VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Vista Unified School District is calling on the community to donate their new and used instruments. As they add new music programs, the goal is to get an instrument in the hand of every student. "I really feel music has the ability to save lives and it does," said Eric Weirather, Band Director at Rancho Buena Vista High School.Weirather has been organizing instruments coming in, and a recent donation took his breath away.RELATED: See how music is molded — for free — at El Cajon's Taylor Guitar factory“It was really unreal, like a kid in a candy store!" Weirather said.North Coast Church heard about the instrument drive and asked their worshipers to help, and they delivered.“They filled an entire room. I think they might be up to 1,000 instruments they've donated. Think about all the impact that will have on these kids for years to come.”They've received guitars, drums, flutes, ukuleles, tambourines, saxophones, keyboards and much more. WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Just ahead of Thanksgiving, a driver had a rare encounter with two wild turkeys on a highway in northeast San Diego County this week. Patrice Malloy was driving south on SR-79 to the community of Warner Springs Wednesday morning when she spotted the turkeys ahead of her on the road. “They were right in front of me; they wouldn’t move,” said Malloy. She slowed her Mini Cooper and honked, but that only attracted the birds’ attention. She grabbed her camera to get proof of the unusual confrontation. “There’s always wildlife,” Malloy said, noting this was her first experience with wild turkeys. “I’ve dodged quail…and there are coyotes.” Eventually, another car approached from behind, which drew the ire of the turkeys. Malloy used the opportunity to drive away, flashing her lights at other drivers to warn them about the wildlife hazard. Malloy says it’s mating season for turkeys, which explains the two animals on the move. 1125

VISTA (CNS) - A Catholic priest who grabbed a seminary student's groin from behind in a restroom stall during a night of drinking at a Carlsbad restaurant was convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery Monday.A jury deliberated about two hours before finding the Rev. Juan Garcia Castillo guilty.Castillo, who had worked at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad since 2011, faces six months in jail and registration as a sex offender when he is sentenced Jan. 18, said Deputy District Attorney Joshua Brisbane.The 33-year-old victim -- a former Navy attorney who left the military to join the priesthood -- testified that he had met Castillo the night before the incident, which happened about 1 a.m. on Feb. 4.According to court testimony, the victim went to the restroom to be sick, and was in a stall when Castillo grabbed his genitals from behind.The victim testified that he told Castillo to go away, but the defendant came back in the stall and massaged the victim's groin in a sexual way.Castillo, 35, testified that he followed the victim into the restroom because it looked like he was going to be sick. The priest said he tried to put pressure on the victim's stomach to stop his vomiting because his mother had taught him that trick as a child.The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego suspended Castillo once it learned of the "credible allegation" against him. 1371
