According to SDHS, it's best to stick to their regular diet of wet and/or dry food and usual treats to keep their digestive tracts happy. Avoid sharing prepared holiday dishes, which might have ingredients that could make your pet sick.If pet owners really want to share some of the meal with their pets, and they have no known food allergies or history of stomach sensitivity, save a small amount of lean white turkey meat with no skin, bones or fat.Feed pets in their bowl rather than from the table to prevent future begging.Pet lovers should avoid offering the following foods as they can cause anything from vomiting and diarrhea to liver failure or pancreatitis:bones, skin, turkey fat and gravy;stuffing and other dishes with onions, garlic, grapes or raisins;anything cooked with butter; anddesserts.If there are holiday guests, ask them not to share food with pets. Family and friends may mean well, but it is important to remind them of the potential dangers. SDHS recommends preparing some sealed snack bags in advance to let guests use those treats instead of sharing from their plates.Keep all food and trash out of reach. This can be challenging on a busy holiday, and pets can be sneaky -- but it's important to keep these items away from your animals.Offer some pet-friendly fun. Give pets a treat dispenser, such as a Kong for dogs, that will reward them as they stay focused. Toys can provide activity, distraction and comfort, so offer different kinds of toys. A new one, like a catnip mouse for cats, can be a welcome surprise.Provide access to a quiet place to retreat. To reduce stress levels, give pets the option to step away to an enclosed room with their favorite toys and bed.Keep fresh water available to drink. Dogs typically pant more when they feel stressed, so on a busy holiday, they may require more water.Maintain a pet's usual routine for both mealtime and playtime. 2123

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A parolee who allegedly stabbed a pair of transients -- one fatally -- in two separate Midway District attacks on Thanksgiving Day was charged Friday with murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Forrest Robert Brantley, 38, of Ventura County, is accused of fatally stabbing 55-year-old Robert Erbe in the neck at about 8 a.m. Nov. 28 outside a business in the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard, according to San Diego police.Brantley is also accused of stabbing another man three times in the back and arm on Sports Arena Boulevard about six hours prior to Erbe's slaying, according to Deputy District Attorney Will Hopkins.The prosecutor said that after stabbing the first victim around 2 a.m., Brantley returned to the area and approached Erbe and an unidentified second transient outside a 7-Eleven store.RELATED: Police identify man in deadly Thanksgiving Day Midway District stabbingHopkins said he offered Erbe drugs in a bag and then stabbed the victim while Erbe was looking through the bag.According to the prosecutor, Erbe asked Brantley why he stabbed him and Brantley responded, ``This is war,'' then stood over the victim and watched him bleed out.In the days following the stabbings, San Diego police circulated photographs of the defendant, which included images captured from surveillance footage on the San Diego trolley.Brantley was arrested in Ventura on Dec. 4 while walking near the intersection of the 101 Freeway and state Route 33, where officers recognized him from fugitive-suspect alerts, according to police in the coastal city north of Los Angeles.According to the prosecutor, Brantley posted on social media days prior to the stabbings that he was going to ``help the homeless,'' though his true intention was to target homeless victims.RELATED: Midway District murder suspect arrested in VenturaWhile the prosecution asked for no bail, San Diego County Superior Court Judge Jay Bloom set bail at million due to the ``totally senseless'' nature of the attacks on ``vulnerable victims,'' as well as the flight risk he believed Brantley represented. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A registered sex offender who broke into his next-door neighbor's home, where he raped and sodomized a 3-year-old girl, pleaded guilty today to four felony charges and is facing an 85-year prison term.Francisco Diaz, 47, entered his plea to four counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, and admitted serious prior felony convictions, according to Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso.Sentencing is scheduled for June 17.Last summer's attack occurred the morning of Aug. 11 in the 5200 block of Maple Street in Oak Park.RELATED: Man arrested after three-year-old says she was kidnapped and touchedDiaz broke a screen and curtain rod and climbed through a window of the sleeping child's bedroom.
