BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Zhou Yongkang said here Friday that China-South Africa relations have never been so good.Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks when meeting with South African Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel.Hailing South African President Jacob Zuma's visit to China in August, Zhou said bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, culture, justice and security had maintained sound momentum.During Zuma's visit, the two countries signed the Beijing Declaration, in which they announced the establishment of the "comprehensive strategic partnership" and mapped out cooperative framework over the next 10 to 15 years.Zhou said he hoped China and South Africa could further implement consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries.Manuel, also in charge of South Africa's National Planning Commission , said he was responsible for the next 15-year plan of South Africa's development, and hoped to learn more from China's success in development.Zhou said China was willing to expand exchanges with South Africa in this regard, as China was working on formulating the 12th Five-year Plan (2011-2015).China became South Africa's largest export destination at the beginning of 2009, and remained South Africa's largest import partner.

BRUSSELS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- China expected France to take new steps in pushing the European Union (EU) for positive policies toward China, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Monday.The relations between China and France were of important influence to China's links with the EU, said Wen during a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy on the sidelines of an Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit in Brussels.China attached great importance to developing ties with France and appreciated France's willingness to enhance cooperation with China, said Wen. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (L) meets with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Brussels, Belgium, Oct. 4, 2010. BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, Tuesday called for greater efforts to develop the economies of ethnic minority areas.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remark at the closing ceremony of a seminar on ethnic minorities work for provincial- and ministerial-level officials in Beijing Tuesday.Ethnic minority issues are important and the Communist Party of China (CPC) must properly handle them while governing the country, said Jia, who is also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.He said officials must unswervingly implement CPC Central Committee policies concerning ethnic minority issues.He urged officials to improve the livelihood of ethnic minority groups and promote unity among China's different ethnic groups.In properly handling ethnic minority issues, the key is to strengthen the Party's leadership and enhance the abilities of officials at all levels, he said.Vice Premier Hui Liangyu also attended the closing ceremony.

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese man convicted of murdering 11 people including three police officers over five years were executed Tuesday in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, a local court said.Listed as one of the top wanted suspects, Cheng Ruilong, 37, was arrested in 2005 and was sentenced to death for murder, robbery and rape by Foshan Municipal Intermediate People's Court in February 2010. He was found to have murdered 11 people in a string of violence between May 1996 and January 2005.Cheng, a Guangdong native, was originally convicted of murdering 13 but the court dropped the number of victims in July's hearing of Cheng's appeal as bodies of a woman and her daughter allegedly killed by Cheng were never found.He lost the appeal. His execution had been approved by the Supreme People's Court, officials with Foshan intermediate court said.
