WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she is ordering the removal from the Capitol of portraits honoring four previous House speakers who served in the Confederacy.In a letter Thursday to the House clerk, Pelosi directed the immediate removal of portraits depicting these former speakers: Robert Hunter of Virginia, James Orr of South Carolina, and Howell Cobb and Charles Crisp, both of Georgia.Pelosi says the House was unaware of the portraits until an inventory was taken of the chamber’s statues.“We didn't know about this until we were taking inventory of the statues,” she said. “And the curator told us that there were four paintings of speakers in that and the Capitol of the United States four speakers who had served in the Confederacy.”Pelosi says that "there is no room in the hallowed halls of Congress or in any place of honor for memorializing men who embody the violent bigotry and grotesque racism of the Confederacy.″Pelosi says the portraits will be taken down in observance of Juneteenth, a June 19 holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. 1094

(KGTV) - President Trump's endorsement Thursday to raise the minimum purchase age for assault rifles from 18 to 21 is sparking local debate.Christa Farmer, 19, has been cleaning and taking care of guns since she was 11.  Farmer bought an AR-15 when she was 18, which she uses for shooting competitions.  It's a gun Farmer is comfortable with, and she says the purchase age should stay at 18."At 18, I knew how to properly disassemble, assemble, clean, and the proper safety rules," said Farmer.Anti-gun-violence advocates like Ron Marcus want such rifles banned nationwide, but say raising the purchase age is a good step.    "The maturity range between 18 and 21, there's a lot of room for growth.  To allow that maturation process before they buy a gun is a good idea," said Marcus, Director of Public Outreach for San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention.Farmer counters with a different maturity argument.  She says she was 'mature enough' to enlist in the Army Reserve several years ago. "If we're old enough to enlist and carry these weapons, I believe we are mature and responsible enough to own them in our personal lives as well," said Farmer.Others say the two situations are different when it comes to owning AR-15s."In the military, you are subject to extreme discipline and oversight ... (KGTV) -- Authorities have identified a man and a woman found dead inside a Vista home Sunday afternoon.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says Della Astorga, 69 and her husband Alfredo Astorga, 76, both died of gunshot wounds.The department has ruled the incident a murder-suicide.RELATED: Man, woman found dead inside Vista homeDeputies said a man called 911 from inside the home located on the 800 block of Warmlands Avenue around 1 p.m. Sunday.When deputies arrived, they found both Della and Alfredo dead inside the home. Walmart has announced that customers won't have to leave home to return their online purchases.On Monday, the company announced they are partnering up with FedEx for a new return service that would allow items to be returned to be picked up from your home.To use Carrier Pickup by FedEx, customers would select which item(s) they are returning on Walmart's website or app, then schedule a date for pickup, and print a label.If you don't have a printer, Walmart said you'd drop it off at FedEx using a QR code off Walmart's website or app and drop the package off at a FedEx location.The "incredibly convenient" return option is free and would stay well beyond the holiday season, Linne Fulcher, Vice President, Customer Strategy, Science and Journeys said.The retail giant also announced a few changes to holiday returns, including finding purchases in-store through your debit or credit card. Walmart is suing the U.S. government in a pre-emptive strike in the battle over its responsibility in the opioid abuse crisis.The government is expected to take civil action against the world’s largest retailer, seeking big financial penalties, for the role its pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions.But on Thursday, Walmart filed a lawsuit saying that the Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration are blaming the company for the government’s own lack of regulatory and enforcement policies to stem the crisis.Walmart says it is seeking a declaration from a federal judge that the government has no lawful basis for seeking civil damages from the company. It is also seeking to clarify its legal rights and duties under the Controlled Substance Act.Walmart operates more than 5,000 pharmacies in its stores around the country.“Walmart and its pharmacists find themselves in an untenable position,” the company based in Bentonville, Arkansas, says in the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Texas. “Under defendants’ sweeping view, Walmart and its pharmacists may be held liable — perhaps even criminally — for failing to second-guess DEA-registered doctors and refuse their prescriptions. But if pharmacists do so, they may face the wrath of state medical boards, the medical community at large, individual doctors, and patients.”Walmart says in the suit that the Justice Department identified hundreds of doctors who have written problematic prescriptions that Walmart’s pharmacists allegedly should not have filled. But nearly 70% continue to have active registrations with the DEA, the lawsuit says.“In other words, defendants want to blame Walmart for continuing to fill purportedly bad prescriptions written by doctors that DEA and state regulators enabled to write those prescriptions in the first place and continue to stand by today,” the suit says.The lawsuit names the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr as defendants. It also names the DEA and its acting administrator, Timothy Shea.In the suit, Walmart describes a government probe of the company that began in December 2016 and calls it a “misguided criminal investigation” conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Texas. Walmart says it fully cooperated with the probe.In the spring of 2018, the office advised that it intended to indict the company. In August 2018, Walmart said that officials at the Department of Justice recognized that there was no plausible basis for a criminal indictment, and the department formally declined to prosecute Walmart. But the civil investigation continued.The initial investigation was a subject of a story in ProPublica published in March. ProPublica reported that Joe Brown, then U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas office, spent years pursuing a criminal case against Walmart for its opioid prescription practices, only to have it stymied after the retail giant’s lawyers appealed to senior officials in the Justice Department.Two months later, Brown resigned. He didn’t give a reason for his departure except to say he would be “pursuing opportunities in the private and public sectors” and “some of those will become apparent in the coming days.
