SACRAMENTO (AP) — A California teacher alerted police to a break-in at a home where her students were participating in an online class. KOVR-TV reported a man entered the home in Galt through a window and ran through the house and then out a back door before going over a fence. Teacher Jennifer Petersen realized something was wrong when the teenagers did not log off at the end of the lesson from their home in the community 26 miles southeast of Sacramento. Petersen called police and stayed online until authorities arrived at the house. No arrests were reported by police. 585

RICHMOND, Ind. — Shots were fired at a Richmond middle school Thursday morning.The incident happened at Dennis Middle School, at about 8 a.m. local time. Police say a teenaged suspect is dead after taking his own life.The school district confirmed on Twitter there was an active shooter. The school is secure.The suspect is contained, WRTV in Indianapolis reports.All Richmond Community Schools are on lockdown, the district posted on Facebook. SACRAMENTO (KGTV) -- Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill Monday requiring California State University undergraduates to take an ethnic studies course to graduate. The change comes amid national calls to dismantle systemic and unconscious racism, starting with public education.The bill was authored by local Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus and longtime professor of Africana Studies at San Diego State University.“What we are seeing in Washington and on American streets right now demonstrates the necessity of understanding the experiences and perspectives of these historically marginalized and oppressed groups who have nonetheless contributed to the building of our country,” Weber said in a statement. “This is great day for students and for the state. I am grateful to the Governor for joining me in moving California forward.”The bill, AB 1460, requires all CSU undergraduates to take at least one three-unit course in ethnic studies. The course must focus on Native Americans, African Americans, or Latina and Latino Americans.The legislation will go into effect beginning with students graduating in the 2024-25 academic year.The bill represents the first change to the CSU general education curriculum in over 40 years. 1283

Like now.“Demand has been strong and a friend of mine calls it ‘Shipaggedon,' concern about what’s going to happen in the transportation network,” says Bolotsky, who also says the supply chain will be limited. “What I think it means for shoppers is if you see something you want, I would buy it now; stick it under the tree.”Kirsten Newbold-Knipp, chief growth office at Convey, a technology company that helps retailers with on time deliveries said, “All the delivery trucks are out and they are busy, you may not have heard of it but there’s sort of a shortage going on right now. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a longtime member of the United States Supreme Court, has died at the age of 87, the Supreme Court confirmed in a statement. Ginsburg has been a justice on the nation's highest court since being appointed by President Bill Clinton.
