YUZHOU, Henan, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a coal mine gas leak in central China's Henan Province has risen to 32 after six more bodies were found, rescuers said Monday.Some 300 rescuers are still racing against the time to search the five miners remaining trapped despite slim chances of survival as they were feared buried in coal dust.More than 2,500 tonnes of coal dust smothered the pit after the gas leak, which hampered the rescue, said Du Bo, deputy chief of the rescue headquarters.The rescue efforts, however, are speeding up after the underground transport, power and ventilation systems have been restored, said Du.The gas outburst happened at 6:03 a.m. Saturday when 276 miners were working underground in the mine in Yuzhou City. A total of 239 workers escaped but 21 were found dead and 16 were trapped.An initial investigation showed that 173,500 cubic meters of gas leaked out in the accident.The mine is owned by Pingyu Coal & Electric Co. Ltd., a company jointly established by four investors, including Zhong Ping Energy Chemical Group and China Power Investment Corp..

HANGZHOU, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 1,000 graves were damaged in a mud flow that hit east China's Zhejiang Province Saturday after torrential rains, caused by tropical storm Meranti, triggered landslides, a debris flow and delayed flights.However, no causalities have been reported as of 11 p.m. after Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang, was hit by nine landslides and a debris flow, said Zhejiang flood control officials.After the mud flow damaged 952 graves at the Meinushan Cemetery in Binjiang District, the district government ordered work crews to relocate exposed remains to safe places and reinforce existing graves, said officials.Torrential rains have been pounding the city since 4 a.m. Officials reported that by 7 a.m. the rainfall has reached 232 mm, a rarely seen accumulation in only three hours.In Shanghai, more than 300 outgoing flights, both domestic and international, were delayed for more than 30 minutes as of 5 p.m. at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.However, no flights have yet been canceled, according to airport security staff.Also, inbound flights have not been seriously affected, with fewer than 10 flights being delayed prior to landing, they said.Additionally, flights were not affected at the other civilian airport, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.

We would appreciate the situation where human rights are dealt with within their own cultural contexts," Elisabeth Perioli Bjornstol, a Norwegian participant on a panel discussion at the forum, said Wednesday.The panel discussion was a part of the two-day Beijing Forum on Human Rights that started Tuesday. The forum attracted about 80 officials, scholars and experts from more than 25 countries, regions and international organizations.China's human rights situation was one of the focal points at the forum."It is highly important to reflect and discuss the key issues of human rights worldwide. People now can come and see how China develops. Ignorance and lack of information were the root causes for many conflicts," Elisabeth Perioli Bjornstol added.Jiang Guoqing, a professor from China Foreign Affairs University, said on the same panel discussion that since reform and opening up was initiated in 1978, China has made great progress in both human rights and modernization.He Ying, vice president of Heilongjiang University, said, "The West often criticizes China for not progressing fast. BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Fire has been put out at the scene of a July 16 blast involving two oil pipelines in Dalian, a port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, by 2 a.m. Monday, the contingency headquarter said.The contingency headquarter said no crude oil has been found spilled over into the sea, and no ocean pollution has been detected.The fire was caused by the remaining oil in a tank which had been emptied before workers tried to remove it at 4:10 p.m.. No casualties have been reported.The tank, owned by China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), caught fire on July 16 when two pipelines at Dalian Xingang Harbor exploded.
