SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Wednesday, emotional testimony was read in a downtown courtroom by the husband and wife who were brutally attacked in an economy parking lot outside of the San Diego International Airport. The testimony was read during the sentencing hearing for Alberto Jauregui, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Jauregui appeared to show no remorse. He smirked and smiled at the couple and at our camera. It was last October when police say Jauregui came up to Donna Kashani and husband Robert Bobbett in the parking lot. He reportedly grabbed Kashani by her neck and demanded the keys to their SUV. “You put me in a headlock with a 10-inch knife to my neck and you were dragging me into our SUV and demanding that I get in with you,” Kashani told him and the courtroom.  In a heroic move, Bobbett threw himself in front of her and charged at Jauregui.  “As I rushed toward you, I truly believed I was going to die in this struggle,” Bobbett told Jauregui and the courtroom. He added, “You stabbed me in the chest nearly hitting my heart. All the while [you were] screaming ‘Die, die, die!’”  Bobbett was stabbed six times and nearly died.  Jauregui was caught days later. During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, he told the courtroom, “You guys have made a big mistake by not giving me help. Instead of giving me help, you want to punish me.” He’ll spend the next 13 years in state prison. 1456

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed and another was injured after a house party in a south central San Diego neighborhood turned deadly.San Diego Police received reports of gunfire just after midnight Saturday in the area of Julian and Marcy Avenues in Logan Heights. Police on scene said an argument at a party escalated into a shooting. At least two people were hit by gunfire.Crews on scene were captured performing chest compression on one person as they were loaded into an ambulance.A man in his 20s was transported to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Another person was injured but refused medical attention, police said. Neither victim has been identified.Police said the suspect fled the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nearly a year after the city opened a facility for the homeless to store their belonging in, residents say they are still being impacted.“There’s human feces all over the alleys,” said one community member during the public comment.At the meeting, a Lieutenant with the San Diego Police Department’s homeless outreach team announced they would be adding a foot patrol in the area starting next week.For the first time, representatives from the County of San Diego said they will also be diverting resources to the area to help with mental health issues.Meantime, the city is searching for another location to open a storage facility in District 9.While the exact location has not yet been announced, officials said two sites are currently being considered, at least one of them is in City Heights. 824

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More people left California than those who moved in last year, according to recent Census data.The data shows that about 691,000 people left California for other pastures around the U.S., while only about 501,000 people moved into the Golden State in 2018.So where did everyone go? The data says most former Californians end up in Texas (86,164), Arizona (68,516), Washington (55,467), or Nevada (50,707).RELATED: San Diego homeowners creating rentals by converting garages into apartmentsPerhaps it's not all that surprising. Year-over-year, Texas added more jobs than any other state. The state added 283,000 jobs and unemployment fell to 3.7 percent in April, according to The Dallas Morning News. California, with 10 million more people than Texas, added 271,600 jobs year-over-year.With Arizona, a recent campaign to court Californians may have attracted new residents. The Greater Phoenix Economic Council's "#CAStruggles" campaign has tried attracting Californians to the desert with the promise of a lower housing cost, taxes, and other financial benefits. A recent UC Berkeley poll found that at least half of California's voters have given either serious (24%) or some (28%) thought to moving. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rain created slick streets Wednesday afternoon, slowing traffic to a standstill in some areas and causing crashes in others. Video captured by 10News shows children and an adult climbing out of a vehicle on northbound Interstate 15 near Interstate 8 after their SUV overturned. Good Samaritans and a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer helped rescue two boys and a man from the vehicle. CHP cautioned drivers to slow down and pay attention as rain continued to drench the county.
