SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two puppies soon to be up for adoption in San Diego are already capturing hearts around the world.Two 3-month-old terrier-blends, named Star and Denver, were taken to Helen Woodward Animal Center on Feb. 11 after their mother had been dumped in a rural location in Louisiana. They were taken by van about 1,900 miles through a partnership with the rescue group Heart of Louisiana.Once in San Diego, it wasn't long before staff learned about Star's unique challenges and special bond with her brother. "Choosing Star as his main playmate, the two were rarely apart and when separated, Denver would come running back to love on Star and let her know he was there."The pair's heartwarming story has made its way across the world, according to the animal center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When school started last week at Dailard Elementary in San Carlos, the father of a second grade student noticed several large spiders and egg sacks in the area where kids hang their backpacks. He took several photos documenting the issue. When he reached out to 10News about a week later, he said he had already spoken to a teacher, custodian, and the principal about the issue but was told a work order would need to be put in to get pest control to the school. The same parent said the spiders appeared to be brown widows, which are venomous and a bite from one requires medical attention. A San Diego Unified School District spokesperson confirmed that a pest control team was sent to the school Thursday to get rid of the spiders and eggs. They also confirmed that the spiders were indeed brown widows, very common in the San Diego area. Despite the concerns, there were no reports of any children ever being bitten. 952

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A man suspected in an attack at a Rolando 7-Eleven that left a father of four on life support pleaded not guilty to one charge of assault with a deadly weapon Friday.The assault charge includes a special allegation for great bodily injury on the victim.John Cowan Patch, 26, is accused of striking 30-year-old George Almestar in the head with a wrench during an argument early Tuesday morning. Behind the idea of 'mini weddings' was Los Willows venue owner, Cathie Ransom."With this horrible pandemic that has affected everyone throughout the world, this is a great way to service for our customers that’d like to have a wedding now and not have to wait," Ransom described.The 'mini weddings' didn't include everything a traditional wedding would like dinner and dancing but it was close."We have the officiant, the wedding cake, the photographer to capture memories, so everything is there ready to go so they don’t have to worry about a thing."It allowed up to 10 guests, all social distanced and came at a fraction of the price."Our couples arrive then they have time to get ready, and then they start the ceremony. We have the cutting of the wedding cake and then we have photos," Ransom added.She said when the pandemic hit, it forced her Oceanside venue to close. But thankfully with quick thinking of 'mini weddings', her Fallbrook location stayed open was able to satisfy anxious couples."I feel like whenever life throws you a curve, you just got to get up and figure it out and usually its for the better."It was a popular choice for those near and far."We’re getting couples from LA, Riverside and Orange County driving down because they don’t want to travel too far."The 2-hour window let Ransom fit up to four weddings in a day and allowed her to keep costs low. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- When professors at San Diego City College weren't prepping for fall semester, they were getting in on a little TikTok action thanks to English professor Christy Ball."I watched a lot of TikTok this summer, I fell in love with all the silliness in America and I really needed it when all the bad news was coming and coming," Ball said.She teamed up with 30 of her colleagues "to let students know we understand this isn't the ideal learning environment but that we believe in them, and we are so committed to their success and we're going to work with them the whole way." Together, they created a 2-minute TikTok-inspired clip with messages like "We're in this together," "You're not alone," and "We are listening."The video's editor and SDCC English professor Kevin Gossett said, "Putting something out like this is a good reminder that we're ready for this. We've been doing months and months of training in so many different ways just for this moment to support you."Gossett said it took a few weeks to edit the video but the hardest part was teaching writers how to TikTok."I did zoom recording sessions where I was walking them step-by-step. I'm like 'Throw it in air so it looks like someone threw it at you' because a lot of people didn't understand 'film magic.'"Ball added, "We recognize this is super strange seeing your class and their kids in the background, pets everywhere, so we wanted to play with that and have fun with the video."Overall, Ball said she wanted one message in the video loud and clear: "We care more about their well being than we do the assignment, we know we can help them get the work done.
