UPDATE: Sunday, June 28 - 2:01 p.m.The San Diego Police Department has identified the suspect who was shot by two uniformed police officers Saturday night.In a release sent Sunday, Lt. Matt Dobbs said the suspect has been identified as Leonardo Hurtado Ibarra, 25, of San Diego.Ibarra remains in the Intensive Care Unit with life- threatening injuries, according to Dobbs.--SAN DIEGO (KGTV ) -- Two San Diego Police Department officers have been placed on paid leave after they shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at one of the officers during a confrontation in downtown Saturday night.According to witnesses, shots rang out around 6 p.m. near the corner of 6th Avenue and B Street, a few blocks east of the San Diego Civic Center.SDPD said that officers spotted a man wanted in connection with a robbery that happened earlier this week.Police said officers tried to talk with the man but he walked away. The man then dropped some items from his arms and "reached into his waistband.""He produced a handgun and then pointed it at the officers" said SDPD Capt. Rich Freedman. "For fear that they were going to be shot, the officers return fire."A gun has been recovered from the scene, police said.Police said the man was wounded and transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. According to police, the man was having surgery late Saturday night.The man was described as a 25-year-old Hispanic male. SDPD said he was wanted for a robbery that happened June 21.SDPD tweeted a grainy still image taken from a nearby surveillance camera showing at least one officer with their gun drawn and a man dressed in red pointing an object at the officer. Two days before a bridge crumbled in Miami, killing six people, an engineer for the company that designed it called a Florida Department of Transportation employee, warning of "some cracking."The state employee was out on assignment that day. The call from W. Denney Pate of FIGG Bridge Engineers was unanswered, and the voice mail he recorded unheard -- until Friday.In the voice mail, Pate said the cracking on the north end of the span should be repaired. VERO BEACH, Fla. -- For Crystal Smith, the midday heat in Florida isn't her biggest challenge. Living in a shelter, the single mom is trying to get back on her feet.She was one of the first people working at the "Dignity Food Truck" in Vero Beach."I've just been making food, certain dishes, just learning. (The organizers) give you on the job training and actually give you a job," said Smith.Set up by the Source, a Christian Ministry outreach in Vero Beach, it is a new program for the homeless and unemployed."What our students lack is real-time training in front of real customers. That's what Dignity Food Truck gives them. It gives them real exposure in real-time, made-to-order food," said Anthony Zorbaugh, the executive director of the Source.Chef Henry Restrepo said this is his most important mission in two decades of cooking."We train them for the culinary so they can get their life back," said Restrepo.Money raised goes back into the program.The truck was made possible by a 0,000 grant from the philanthropic group Impact 100."We love the mission. We love the project itself. It fulfills a multitude of needs," said Kristin Rohr with Impact 100.It fills an immediate need for Smith while giving her hope for the future."I would like my own business eventually," said Smith.The Food Truck will be parked at Tropical Scooters along U.S. 1 in Vero Beach on Mondays and Tuesdays.It will be at United Against Poverty Wednesdays and Route 60 Hyundai on Fridays. VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — A California church held indoor worship service Sunday morning despite a judge’s temporary restraining order that bars the church from doing so. The pastor led a 9 a.m. service in defiance of coronavirus health orders at Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Ventura County’s Newbury Park. A livestream of the morning’s service showed a mask-less pastor and a musician standing before at least two dozen worshipers — most of whom were also not wearing masks.
