SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several protesters were arrested in downtown San Diego Friday night as demonstrators gathered following a grand jury announcement in the Breonna Taylor case.San Diego Police tweeted just before 11 p.m. that three protesters were arrested at B Street and Columbia Street.One of the demonstrators was arrested for robbery of a cell phone while two others were arrested for interfering with an arrest. Police said a cell phone was stolen from a victim while they were recording the protesters.Police said earlier that roughly 40 to 50 protesters gathered in the downtown area.“We are again with the group to ensure they remain safe and the community remains safe. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SDG&E announced Fire Safe 3.0 innovations to advance wildfire safety at its headquarters in Kearny Mesa Tuesday.It's the power company's plan to use more advanced technologies to improve wildfire safety. Instead of using weather data updated every 10 minutes, they utilize data updated every 30 seconds instead. SDG&E's chief meteorologist explained they're using artificial intelligence-based models that make weather data more accurate and they're monitoring more than 500,000 trees in the area using a "Vegetation Risk Index."It helps determine how those trees might impact power lines or become fuel for fires. SDG&E also announced plans to open a Fire Science and Innovation Lab next year. 734

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small businesses trying to stay afloat amid coronavirus restrictions can apply for up to million in forgivable low-interest loans to help them get by. The Federal Small Business Administration has opened its application site for businesses with fewer than 500 employees to apply for the loans, which would have an interest rate of no more than 4 percent. The loans are part of the stimulus package Congress and the President authorized last week. They are meant to help small businesses maintain payroll and meet essential obligations like rent, mortgages and utilities at a time social distancing has eliminated most consumer spending. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego-based U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a sex offender and stopped smuggling at sea over the holiday weekend, Customs and Border Patrol officials announced Thursday. Agents spotted a man in East San Diego County about six miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border at 12:30 a.m. on July 6. The 53-year-old Honduran national did not have any documents verifying his residency, officials said. Agents took the unidentified Honduran man to a station for processing. They discovered he had been convicted of sexually assaulting a child and sentenced to prison in New Hampshire in 2008, according to the CBP. The man will be processed for illegal re-entry after removal, officials said. A U.S. Coast Guard cutter made the second significant arrest of the holiday weekend, officials said. The crew intercepted a boat off Point Loma the evening of July 7. Although it appeared to have one person on board, Coast Guard crew members found an additional 12 people suspected of trying to enter the U.S. illegally, officials reported. The group taken into custody included nine men and two women from Mexico, and a Salvadoran man and woman. Border Patrol Agents also arrested 530 people who tried to cross the border illegally over the long weekend. 1270
