Seniors at Miami's Christopher Columbus High School had expected a fun night at their "Welcome to the Jungle" themed prom. The lasting memory of Friday's prom will instead be one of controversy, after a live tiger was brought in to perform at the dance. The school posted videos of the tiger's appearance at prom on its Instagram account, which have since been deleted. As the footage went viral online, people on social media criticized what they called the tiger's apparent mistreatment. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is now investigating whether laws were broken. One video obtained by CNN showed a tiger pacing frantically in a cage on the dance floor as loud sounds from speakers boom. 730

"Ghosting" — The term is usually reserved in online dating when a prospective date doesn't call or text back. Now, it's being used on prospective employers when new hires don't show up for their first day of work.Liz Blondy has roughly 80 employees covering her various K-9 to 5 pet care locations and says she's fallen victim to a trend of ghosting. "It's strange because it’s like where did they go?" Blondy said.Experts say part of the reason for the sudden disappearing act is actually good news: a stronger economy. "There’s more jobs for people so they have more options, they have more choices," Blondy said. However, the toll the trend takes on those who get ghosted is more than just the equivalent of an emotional rollercoaster. "A lot of these candidates we get really excited about, so to have them not show up can be disappointing and also expensive," Blondy said. "We start with the group interview, we have them come back to do a work assessment. the HR person spends time creating a schedule, the onboarding…we’ve already spent a couple of hundred dollars before they even walk in the door their first day." 1166

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - San Diego Police shot a man who died Wednesday at a San Ysidro mobile home park. The incident happened at Willow Road and East Calle Primera about 1:45 p.m., police confirmed.According to police, witnesses say the suspect, who was only described as a Hispanic man in his 50s, was walking through mobile home park with an AK-47-style rifle. A witness told police that the man was acting odd and appeared to be hiding from someone. Several people in the area say the man pointed the rifle at them. After police arrived on scene, the man approached the officers’ location and fired a round from the rifle, police say. An officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he didn’t cooperate. At that point, a witness said the man raised the weapon in the direction of the officers and gunshots were heard again before the suspect fell to the ground. Officers administered first aid until medics arrived. The suspect, who hasn’t yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that one officer, a 2-and-a-half year veteran of the department, shot the man. The officer’s name isn’t being released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1277

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Russia had "no impact on our vote" in the 2016 presidential contest and vowed to combat any attempts to meddling in the 2018 midterms."The Russians had no impact on our votes. Certainly there was meddling. Probably there was meddling from other countries," Trump said during a news conference alongside Swedish Prime Minister Stefan L?fven.Asked whether he was concerned Russia could have an effect on the midterms, Trump insisted the US would prevent any election interference efforts."No, because we'll counteract whatever they do," Trump said.He encouraged states to include an analog backup to avoid attempts to hack electronic systems."You have to be very vigilant. One of the things we're learning, it's always good to have a paper back-up system of voting. Called paper. Not highly complex computers. Paper," he said. 889

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Churches in San Diego are continuing to hold virtual services despite the President's order to open places of worship immediately. While some fight the constitutionality of the forced closures, others say they do not mind waiting for updated state and federal reopening guidelines. It's another Sunday service to an empty hall at Rock Church in Point Loma, but Senior Pastor Miles McPherson says he still reaches a broad audience online. "Ministry is happening," McPherson said. "We are having church every day. We're just not having service in this building."Friday, faith leaders rejoiced when President Trump deemed houses of worship "essential.""The Governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend. If they don't do it, I will override the Governors," the President addressed. But according to California's phased reopening plan, religious services fall under Phase 3. We are currently in Phase 2."We look forward to churches reopening in a safe and responsible manner," Governor Gavin Newsom said Friday. "And we have guidelines that we anticipated completing on Monday."The South Bay United Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista filed a lawsuit this month, fighting the Governor's stay-at-home-order, banning the opening of places of worship. But Friday, the Federal Appeals Court rejected their request. On Saturday, the church re-filed an emergency motion to the US Supreme Court to halt the Governor's ban. "California has been discriminating against churches in their reopen plan," South Bay United Pentecostal Church Senior Pastor, Arthur Hodges said. "We should not be in the last stage. We should be in the first stage."While the coronavirus pandemic has many groups tiptoeing around the idea of separation of church and state, McPherson says he is in no hurry to reopen physically. "How services are going to happen is going to depend on the regulations from the CDC, but we will adjust accordingly," McPherson said. "We are not bothered by whatever restrictions are put on us because you can't restrict people helping other people, and that's what our focus is going to be." 2194
