Things like paid maternity leave and vacation, and flexible working times and locations are more likely to drive millennials to change jobs. But once they find what they are looking for, this poll shows they want the stability to stay there.In Pinto's case, it was flexibility and feeling like she was making an impact.As president of Keiser University's West Palm Beach Campus, Kimberly Lea works with millennials every day. She sees a shift in their mindset, forcing a shift in the workforce as a whole."When they talk about the millennial it's 'ugh they are not loyal,' but I don't think that's a bad thing. I think they are discerning and they want a quality relationship and quality experience. And if the experience is not a good one, they are not going to stay just because they are supposed to be loyal. That doesn't work for them," she says. The Gallup Poll conducted recently also showed millennials want benefits and perks that directly impact their lives and the lives of their family members.Lea says seeing those desires even led her to reexamine her own. "Because of the information available to millennials, they are not afraid to ask for what they want. I think it took me into maybe the last 5-10 years to say, 'Oh, I could ask for something different, I'm not going to just take what's offered to me,' " she says"It makes me reflect a little bit on my own philosophy, you don't have to stay someplace just because you've been there before or you've agreed to do that. You need to be discerning and you need to make decisions whether it is the right thing for you, whether it matches your values and I think that's very good. It makes us more reflective and makes it a better experience than going in and not being engaged," she added.Now working for Expedia Cruiseship Centers in Boca Raton, Pinto says she is happier than ever. She says, "it's really what I want. There's days when I'm busy at home, I have appointments at home so I can work from home and there are days I have clients that might be coming in so I come into work." MIAMI, Fla. – The extremely active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season came to an end Monday and coastal communities are breathing a sigh of relief.However, while the hurricane season officially concludes on Nov. 30, that doesn’t necessarily mean the United States is out of the woods. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says tropical storms may continue to develop past that day.Even without more storms, this season has been historic. We saw a record-breaking 30 named storms and 12 landfalling storms in the continental U.S., according to the NOAA. Before this year, the 2005 season held the record for the most named storms, with 28.Of this season’s 30 named storms, 13 of them became hurricanes, meaning winds were 74 mph or greater. Six of those were considered major hurricanes, with winds reaching at least 111 mph: Laura, Teddy, Delta, Epsilon, Eta, and Iota.Because the 2020 season got off to an early and rapid pace, officials quickly exhausted the 21-name Atlantic list when Wilfred formed in September.So, for only the second time in history, the Greek alphabet was used for the remainder of the season, extending through the ninth name in the list, Iota.“The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season ramped up quickly and broke records across the board,” said Neil Jacobs, Ph.D, acting NOAA administrator. “Our investments in research, forecast models, and computer technology allowed forecasters at the National Weather Service, and its National Hurricane Center, to issue forecasts with increasing accuracy, resulting in the advanced lead time needed to ensure that decision makers and communities were ready and responsive.”NOAA says this was the fifth consecutive year with an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season, with 18 above-normal seasons out of the past 26.Scientists attribute the increase in activity to the warm phase of the Atlantic Multi-Decadal Oscillation (AMO), which NOAA says began in 1995 and has favored more, stronger and longer-lasting storms. Mark Kelly, a former astronaut and husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, was sworn in as a U.S. senator on Wednesday afternoon.Kelly, a Democrat, defeated Sen. Martha McSally in a November special election. McSally had been appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey to serve in the seat once occupied by Sen. John McCain, who died in 2018.Because Kelly was elected in a special election, he is being sworn in ahead of newly-elected Senators, who will assume their roles early next year.Kelly's seat is one of three Democrats flipped on election day, while Republicans were able to flip one seat back into their control. His twin brother, Scott, is also an astronaut.Kelly's first foray into politics came via his wife. Giffords was first elected as a congresswoman in 2006, but in 2011, a gunman shot her in the head during an assassination attempt.
