Journalists are boycotting coverage of films from Walt Disney Studios in order to show solidarity with the L.A. Times, which is being blocked by the company.Entertainment sites like The A.V. Club said it was following in the footsteps of the Post's Alyssa Rosenberg, who explained on Monday that even though she's excited to see Disney films like next month's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," she can't "in good conscience attend similar showings or write reviews in advance" as long as Disney is blocking the Times from press screenings.She added that she doesn't speak for the Post, and that until the Times' critics are "treated like everyone else and welcomed back to press screenings," that she'll write about the films after they are released."I like a lot of movies that come out of the Disney corporate behemoth," she wrote. "But I like journalistic independence from corporate influence more. JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A squirrel found in Morrison, Colorado, on July 11 tested positive for the bubonic plague.This is the first known case of the plague in the county this year, according to Jefferson County Public Health. It's not an uncommon sickness to see in rodents year to year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, scientists believe the plague bacteria circulates in low rates of rodent populations regularly.The department did not release any other information on the animal.Both humans and household animals can become infected with the plague without proper precautions.Humans may become sick with the plague through bites from infected fleas, a cough from an infected animal, or direct contact — such as a bite — with the blood or tissue of an infected animal, according to the health department.Dogs and cats are also susceptible to the plague, though cats are more vulnerable to it. While dogs may pick up and carry plague-infected rodent fleas, cats can contract the plague from flea bites and can die without treatment and antibiotics. If you believe your pet is sick, call your veterinarian. Jefferson County Public Health also recommends talking to your vet about flea prevention if you live near wild animals, including prairie dog colonies.Symptoms of the plague include:· Sudden onset of high fever· Chills· Headache· Nausea· Extreme pain and swelling of lymph nodes, within two to seven days after exposureIt can be treated with antibiotics when diagnosed early. Kingsley, Iowa is home to 1,400 people. “Everybody knows everybody,” said resident Chet Davis.Davis owns the town’s single grocery store: Chet’s Foods. The store has been operating for decades, and Davis’ family has owned it for more than 40 years.Generations of the community have come through these doors, but now, Davis is worried this neighborhood staple may have an expiration date.“Whether we can make it the rest of the year, I don’t know,” said the father of four and grandfather of eight.Davis said his store’s sales took a big hit when a new neighbor moved in just a few blocks away. “This year, we had a Dollar General open up in Kingsley,” he said. They always talk about a food desert, and that’s what we’ll have here if we end up having to close the store like we did the other one,” said Davis, referring to his second grocery store just a few miles away.What used to be a space packed with fresh produce is now empty, collecting dust. Davis and his family were forced to close just over one year after Dollar General opened right next door.“They came in and took about 30 percent of our business right off the top.
