San Diego (KGTV)- The entertainment world is left in shock after the death of Chadwick Boseman. The Hollywood star lost his battle with colon cancer. He was just 43 years old. Local physicians are stressing the importance of getting screened.For four years, the actor fought a silent battle with this cancer. He was diagnosed in his late 30's, much younger than the age many get tested."What we have seen is in younger people, the rates of colon cancer are going up and have actually gone up every decade, and the reasons for that are not known," says Dr. Abi Olulade with Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group.Olulade says the rates of colon cancer are higher in the African American community."Not only is there an increased rate in colon cancer, but there's an increased chance of dying from this if you are African American," says Olulade.The American Cancer Society estimates 12-percent of colorectal cancer diagnosis this year will be in people under the age of 50."People have put off their screening, which is dangerous," says Dr. Walter Coyle with the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center.Coyle says due to the pandemic, fewer patients are coming in for screenings."The American Cancer Society says we should start screening people at age 45 and up now. All the other societies say 50 unless you're African American."Coyle says a healthy diet can help lower the risks of this cancer. He hopes the news of famous actor Chadwick Boseman will encourage people to get their screenings."I couldn't imagine someone that young and vigorous dying. (KGTV) - NOAA's Climate Prediction Center released the updated outlook for winter 2020-2021 expectations, and the report shows the increased confidence for a moderate La Nina winter.National Weather Service Meteorologist Alex Tardy said La Nina winters mean cold water along the equator, which are already present in October. These cold waters can have a domino impact on the globe, including warmer waters in the Atlantic and ultimately a higher risk of hurricanes, and also a more northern jet stream over the west coast, keeping moisture isolated more north and leading to dry conditions in Southern California.This dry winter coupled with San Diego’s recent weather history could be a recipe for disaster. The last two winters have been wet in San Diego, with most areas in San Diego County getting 1.5 times their usual rainfall during the most recent winter. This increased moisture helped vegetation grow, then the summer of 2020 brought record-breaking heat, drying that vegetation out. That, coupled with a lack of monsoon moisture in 2020, means there is dry vegetation that could be fuel for fires.“Any type of fire is going to be a problem in Southern California because the conditions are so dry,” said Tardy.He added that a new water year just began Oct. 1, 2020, so while the last water year had impressive rain totals, a new year has started.“So regardless of what happened last winter, we kind of reset now. Now we’re in a whole new year and unfortunately, things are looking very stressed as far as fire conditions,” said Tardy.He said rain is not out of the question for a La Nina year, but it will be more variable. (KGTV): City leaders in San Diego want to bring another major military attraction to America's Finest City.On Tuesday, the City Council will vote on a resolution showing their support for bringing the National Medal of Honor Museum to town.The resolution touts the city's strong military ties and thriving tourism industry as reasons for why the Museum should pick San Diego.Right now, the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation is still in the fundraising and planning phase. According to their website, the museum would tell the stories of each of the 3,500+ Medal of Honor recipients. It would also have an education center.There's no word from the museum on when they plan to pick a location.San Diego already has the USS Midway Museum, which brings in over one million visitors each year. The resolution also lists the San Diego Air and Space Museum, the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum, The Veterans’ Museum and Memorial Center, Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial, Cabrillo National Monument and the San Diego History Center as other major military monuments in town.The city is also home to the largest concentration of US Military members in the world. Approximately 143,000 active duty military and 241,000 veterans live in San Diego."It's a perfect fit," says Mark Balmert, the Executive Director of the San Diego Military Advisory Council. He said he was brought in during the pandemic, so he knew Clare was the Bachelorette and he knew the season would be shot in a quarantined setting at a Palm Springs resort.Tayshia sent him home on the episode that aired Nov. 24 and he said looking back, he felt more of a connection with Clare.“I have to be completely honest, I’d say Clare. I didn’t really get the opportunity to progress with Tayshia and it was just a surface level connection getting to know each other,” he said.Chasen had a few heated moments during his time on the show, including calling Tayshia a “smoke show” in front of the other guys in the house. Looking back, he says he would’ve picked a different word. He said one part of the journey he would not change, though, was his interactions with Ed, another guy in the house. Chasen and Ed had a few tense moments, but Chasen said he doesn’t regret how he reacted.“I wish Ed would have stopped and surrendered when I apologized but some people hold onto things. I think if that was different than things could’ve been different with my progression with Tayshia and our relationship,” said Chasen, saying he and Ed have reconciled since the show aired.Chasen said he’s happy to be back home in San Diego. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Deadly wildfires in California have burned more than 4 million acres (6,250 square miles) this year, a new record for the most acres burned in a single year. The previous record was two years ago when wildfires destroyed 1.67 million acres (2,609 square miles).
