Middletown, Connecticut (WFSB) -- A car slammed into Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut and caught fire on Thursday morning.According to Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, the act was intentional and that there were gas cans in the car.Drew said in a noon news conference that a man in his 20s crashed into the emergency room entrance and then set himself on fire. He was reportedly at Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition.One person was hurt, according to dispatchers.“I heard a noise," said Gary Mills, an eyewitness. "I was in my room. I put my shoes on and looked out the window and I saw all the smoke coming out. I said 'something is happening over there.' My sister got up. We went outside and we saw all the flames and then over this side I see this guy screaming, he was screaming! McDonald's hopes new breakfast items will draw more customers to the golden arches.The company announced Tuesday that it would expand its breakfast menu. The new items, along with local deals and low prices, should help "win back customers at breakfast," said CFO Kevin Ozan during a call with analysts.With the new items, McDonald's is aiming to reverse a troubling trend: American customers are eating elsewhere.Sales in the United States grew by 2.4% in the third quarter, but that was mostly because people spent more. The number of American customers declined.Over the past couple of years, McDonald's (MCD) has tried a number of different strategies to boost its US business. It put self-order kiosks in restaurants. It added new menu items. And McDonald's added delivery.That helped boost sales among existing customers. But those initiatives, part of a massive effort to modernize its US restaurants, haven't helped McDonald's hold on to existing customers or bring in new ones.The company believes a revamped breakfast menu could help."It's very competitive out there at breakfast," said CEO Stephen Easterbrook. "We're still losing a little share ... it continues to be a battleground," he said. "We want to do better at breakfast."McDonald's didn't offer details on what the new items will be.In recent years, Taco Bell has found success with its breakfast offerings. The chain started serving breakfast in 2014 and now sells items like the naked egg taco, which has a fried egg for a shell. Then, the mayor and her police bodyguard head off to the back side of the cemetery alone.And the security video shows the pair left on one occasion after just 12 minutes.In other cases, it's as long as 24 minutes.So what were they doing there?The mayor's spokesperson, Sean Braisted, said Barry "finds it to be a peaceful place to start her day."He added, "Sometimes she would go for a walk, other times she would sit in the car and either reflect, make calls, catch up on emails, or report issues with vandalism in the cemetery."Braisted provided a photo of a tomb that had been partially disturbed that, he said, Barry had provided to city officials.Metro Council member Steve Glover said his only concern for the taxpayers."What is relevant is if the taxpayers are paying for an officer who should not be drawing overtime for frivolous things, and I'm going to call them frivolous," Glover said. In every case documented by WTVF, payroll records show Forrest was on the clock.And in all but one case, he ended up charging taxpayers later that day for overtime -- sometimes late into the night.Glover questioned why Forrest couldn't have split the work with other officers assigned to the mayor's security detail -- so that no one had to work overtime."That makes no sense to me," Glover said.
