WARREN, Mich. – A suspect is in custody for the execution-style murders of three people in Michigan, including a 6-year-old boy, his father and the dad’s fiancée.Last Friday, a person of interest in the heinous murder of the child and 28-year-old woman was being questioned by officers, according to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.Warren police say they will present their case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office Tuesday morning.According to Dwyer, officers did a wellness check at an Otis Avenue home in Warren around 10 a.m. on Oct. 1. The front door was open, but there was no sign of a forced entry. That’s when police discovered the bodies of the boy and woman, both fatally shot execution-style in the basement, Dwyer said.Warren police are working with Detroit police after it was confirmed the 6-year-old victim was the son of a 31-year-old man whose body was found in a burned-out vehicle on Detroit’s east side. The 28-year-old woman is the girlfriend, police confirmed.According to Detroit Major Crimes Commander Eric Decker, officers responded to the vehicle fire report around 2 a.m. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was a rental car, which was then used to identify the 31-year-old victim and trace his connection to the home in Warren. The man’s initial cause of death was from a gunshot wound. The vehicle was burned after the shooting.Dwyer said the department has secured video from around the Otis Avenue neighborhood, which will be later released. Authorities have also executed a search warrant on the home and have recovered evidence to test for possible suspect identification.Federal agents are being asked to join the investigation as Warren police anticipate seeking the death penalty in the case.“When you murder an innocent 6-year-old baby, you deserve the death penalty.” Dwyer said. “It was a terrible, terrible scene. Very difficult for the officers who had to process the scene.”Right now, police say it is possible the victims knew the suspect(s), and there is a possibility the motive may be narcotics related.“Let’s bring justice to the family,” Dwyer said. This story was originally published by staff at WXYZ. 2174

Negotiators are working on a 0 billion package that would revive subsidies for businesses hit hard by the pandemic, help distribute new vaccines, fund schools and renew soon-to-expire jobless benefits. They're also looking to include new direct payments of about 0 to most Americans. There's intense pressure for a deal. Unemployment benefits run out Dec. 26 for more than 10 million people. VISTA (CNS) - Murder and child cruelty charges were filed Friday against a man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home.Pedro Araujo, 27, is accused in Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo, whose body was found in the home's bathroom.Police have not commented on her cause of death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used in her killing. In addition to murder, he's also charged with child cruelty in regards to Mariah, as well her 6-year-old sister, Viviana, who was also in the home at the time.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedAraujo was slated to appear in a Vista courtroom Friday afternoon, but did not appear because he was being held in "enhanced observation housing," though court staff did not elaborate. He's tentatively due to be arraigned Monday afternoon. The child's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, police spokesman Tom Bussey said. The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom. Detectives questioned Araujo and took him into custody on suspicion of murdering his daughter, Bussey said.Members of the girl's family gathered at the Vista courthouse Friday and told reporters that Araujo was unstable and should not have been anywhere near his daughters.Karina Avina, Mariah's aunt, said Araujo's mother had custody of the children as numerous CPS cases were open and ongoing against him, though the circumstances of those cases was unclear."We want him to pay the max. That's what we want," Avina said. "We don't want a few years. We don't want him to get out. He needs to pay his whole life. He needs to remember and wake up each morning that his baby's gone and he's not going to see her anymore." 2119

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has made it easier for religious schools to obtain public funds, upholding a Montana scholarship program that allows state tax credits for private schooling. The court’s 5-4 ruling, with conservatives in the majority, came Tuesday in a dispute over a Montana scholarship program for private K-12 education that also makes donors eligible for up to 0 in state tax credits. Montana's highest court had struck down the tax credit as a violation of the state constitution’s ban on state aid to religious schools. The scholarships can be used at both secular and religious schools, but almost all the recipients attend religious schools. 674
