SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When Major League Baseball starts its season in empty stadiums, a local company will be the supplying crowd noise - from a video game.At the Padres exhibition game at Petco Park Monday, amid the empty stands, there was the distinct sound of a crowd."Our goal is to help create the most authentic experience we can during these times," said Ramone Russell, Communications and Brand Strategist at San Diego Studio, a branch of Sony Interactive Entertainment.The Sorrento Valley-based San Diego Studio, the creators of MLB's official video game, MLB The Show 20, were tasked with filling up the silence of the ballparks by calling on a large collection of real sounds."We've been going to games for the last 10 years, so we have a giant catalog of audio," said Russell.The catalog contains reactions to just about any kind of play, from a routine play to a home run blast. Each reaction has been digitally remastered for the stadium setting. League officials hoping those sounds will make players feel more comfortable."Baseball players are not used to competing in empty stadiums ... just hoping to providing a normalcy for them," said Russell.Stadium sound engineers for each home team will have access to 75 different effects and reactions."Every single major league baseball team will be able to watch the game in real time and slide those events and reactions up and down, so it sounds authentic," said Russell.Baseball is hoping the crowd noise, along with walk-up music, stadium announcers and in-stadium video, will replicate the in-game experience as much as possible.Many of the teams, including the Padres, will also have cardboard cutouts of fans in some parts of the stadium. 1712

Some of the shows require a ticket purchase to get prime viewing in a physical distancing atmosphere, or viewers can find street parking where allowed.Those who live nearby only need to look out their window!Fireworks displays have been canceled throughout much of California to limit gatherings and curb the spread of COVID-19. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Uber announced Wednesday that the ride sharing company has chosen San Diego to be part of the new Uber Rewards program.The program lets users earn points every time they use Uber or Uber Eats, and the loyalty program has four membership levels: Blue, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.Once customers sign up, they’ll begin to earn points. Users will earn one point for every eligible dollar spent on UberPool and Uber Eats, two points for UberX, UberXL, Select and WAV and three points for Black and Black SUV.Once you earn 500 points within six months, you’ll advance from Blue to Gold. At 2,500 points you’ll advance to Platinum. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two competing plans are on the table to redevelop the Tailgate Lot a block from Petco Park into a mixed-use area with park space, retail and office, and housing.Wednesday San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will announce the winning proposal to redevelop a portion of downtown’s East Village Quarter.The Tailgate Lot property includes 15 parcels of land, or about 5.25 net acres, between K Street and Imperial Avenue and 12th Ave. and 14th St.One of the plans was developed by Brookfield Properties and the other between the San Diego Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital. Both plans call for a combination of office, retail, and residential space and open park space and parking.Brookfield Properties' plan calls for about 1.2 million square feet of mixed-use office and retail space, about 1,200 residential units, and 1.1 acres of park and community space. The plan also highlights developing a tailgate park, "bazaar" marketplace, and a gateway to public transit.The plan by the Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital also features about 1.35 million square feet of office space, 612 market rate and affordable housing units, 236,000 square feet of open space, and 1,600-space parking garage for games and ballpark events.The parking garage would also include a multi-use field on the roof for recreational activities. It was a momentary break from the last two-and-a-half months when she's been worried about many things, least of all herself.On August 15, Caceres gave birth to her son Santino at 29 weeks. He's been in the NICU at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital ever since."Very traumatizing, honestly," Caceres said over the hum of hair dryers at Robert Cromeans Salon downtown. "I don't take time for myself really," she said. "It's really cool they did this, honestly."Caceres was one of eight NICU moms treated to a hair and makeup makeover at the salon Monday during an event organized by March of Dimes.The event came on the same day the March of Dimes released a report card showing the premature birth rate in the U.S. rose for the fourth straight year to 10.02 percent.Preterm birth rates worsened in 30 states. California fared better than the national average. In San Diego County, the rate actually improved year-over-year to 8.4 percent.It's still largely a mystery why some women deliver early.
