The Department of Justice said Monday that an NYPD officer had been arrested and charged with allegedly acting as an "illegal agent" for the Chinese government.In a statement released Monday, the DOJ said that in addition to illegal agent charges, 33-year-old Baimadajie Angwang has also been charged with committing wire fraud, making false statements and obstructing an official proceeding.The DOJ alleges that Angwang was providing information about Chinese citizens in the New York area to the government of the People's Republic of China. He was also allegedly "developing intelligence sources within the Tibetan community."According to Scripps station WPIX in New York, Angwang is a Tibetan native and resident of Long Island. Once that visa was renewed, he overstayed the length and later claimed asylum "on the basis that he had allegedly been arrested and tortured" in China due to his Tibetan heritage.A complaint alleges that Angwang has worked under the control of the Chinese government since 2014. The Food and Drug Administration warned pregnant women on Thursday of using some pain and fever medications during the second half of pregnancies.According to the FDA, these nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause rare but serious kidney problems in the unborn baby, which can cause pregnancy-related complications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs include ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and celecoxib. The FDA added that its warning does not apply to low-dose aspirin.“It is important that women understand the benefits and risks of the medications they may take over the course of their pregnancy,” said Patrizia Cavazzoni, M.D., acting director of FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “To this end, the agency is using its regulatory authority to inform women and their health care providers about the risks if NSAIDs are used after around 20 weeks of pregnancy and beyond.”The FDA says that warnings on prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs already advise of complications past 30 weeks. The Federal Aviation Administration issued an emergency directive for inspections of certain Boeing 737 planes due to recent reports of engine shutdowns.The FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive on Thursday for certain Boeing 737s that have been in storage for more than a week.According to the directive, a certain engine valve may be responsible for four recent reports of engine shutdowns. Agency officials suspect that the valve may become corroded during storage, causing it to remain stuck in the open position.The directive requires that any Boeing 737-300, -400, -500, -600, -700, -700C,-800, -900, and -900ER that have been in storage for a week or longer undergo an inspection before being put back into use. The directive also requires inspections for any of those Boeing models that have completed "less than 10 flight cycles" at the time of the directive after coming out of storage.The inspection order was released the same day that CNBC reported that Boeing told lenders to expect fewer deliveries of its 737 Max planes that initially expected.
