CORNING, Mo. — As the cleanup along the Missouri River continues following significant flooding last month, several communities are finally seeing what the floodwaters left behind.Flooding ravaged farmers along the Missouri Bottoms, including 71-year-old Bruce Biermann’s farm in Corning, Missouri.The fourth-generation farmer surveyed his farm on Wednesday. He said two grain bins containing corn and soybeans were destroyed.The strong current washed the bins into his front yard and even into neighboring fields.“They are now deteriorating, rotting, swelling up and sprouting,” Biermann said.He stored the grain because it was a down year for market value on the crops. He was hoping to sell when prices increased.“This year it wasn’t as attractive as we needed it or what we would have liked for it to be, but we needed to start moving grain,” he said.He learned a hard lesson: all of his grain is now ruined and will not be covered by insurance because stored crops aren’t covered under federal law.“All this would have to come out of our pocket, along with the loss of income from the grain that has no market value left whatsoever now,” Biermann said.The financial damage totals around 0,000 in lost grain.“That money was supposed to go ahead and help me finance and do my farming for 2019,” he said.Biermann won’t be in the fields this year. ELOY, Arizona — A 70-year-old Oklahoma man is behind bars after an Eloy, Arizona police officer found a dead body in his car during a traffic stop. Authorities say the officer stopped Rodney Puckett in the area of Toltec Road along Interstate 10 on Monday. While the officer was talking to Puckett, he noticed the body of a dead woman sitting in the passenger seat. Police say the woman was identified as Rodney’s wife, 74-year-old Linda Puckett. Rodney told investigators Linda died at a hotel in Texas during the couple’s road trip. He said he moved her body into the car and continued to their destination. The couple, who married in 2011, were divorcing. Linda was issued a protective order from her husband on Feb. 6 and it was continued Monday, records show. Linda filed for divorce on Feb. 8.In another connection, Rodney was reported missing in April, but the Silver Alert for him was canceled once it was found he had not been heard from because he was in a Kansas jail. The Silver Alert said he has bipolar disorder.Linda’s body was turned over to the Pinal County Medical Examiner to determine cause of death, police said. The Eloy Police Department is working with Texas authorities to determine if Linda's death was a result of homicide. Rodney was booked into Pinal County Jail for abandonment or concealment of a body. COLORADO — Riders on rentable scooters getting them from Point A to Point B around cities in America may not be thinking about something big: The germs.When our reporters talked to folks riding on them, they guessed the handles could be pretty germ-ridden.Our reporters looked at public bikes, too, and did some swab tests, which were taken to a lab. The goal was to find out what bacteria may be found on the scooters.The team tested for stapholococous, E. coli, general bacteria levels, yeast and mold.The results were surprising.“My initial action was surprise,” said Microbiologist Helene Ver Ecke, of Metro State University. She knows all about bacteria."Some were a lot cleaner and some were a lot dirtier,” Ver Ecke said of the tests.One group of scooters had:? 700 bacteria colonies? No E. coli or strep? So not all fungus are bad,” Ver Ecke said.The tests make the germ issue seem pretty bad, but there is bacteria everywhere, and it’s not all bad, she said.People were surprised there wasn’t more bacteria.Ver Ecke said it’s because there isn’t food present, which would provide moisture for bacteria to feed on.
