SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Food and Drug Administration has recalled several types of tattoo ink after determining they were contaminated with bacteria. One of them is the popular black ink made by Dynamic Color. The FDA found that two of their lots tested positive for microorganisms. The recall includes all bottles of Scalpaink SC, Scalpaink PA, and Scalpaink AL basic black tattoo inks manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics. One lot of Color Art’s red Solid Ink-Diablo was also included. Tattoo shops across the country were contacted through their local health departments about the recall. One of the largest tattoo parlors in San Diego, SD Tattoo, says they got the email Wednesday morning and immediately searched through their inks. They did have the Dynamic black ink, but tattoo artist Nicki Ninteman said, "We checked all the lot numbers and all of ours are clean, so we’re good."She said they didn't have either of the other two brands in the shop.According to the FDA, people who have been tattooed with contaminated ink can experience rashes or lesions of red papules. If untreated, contaminated ink can also cause permanent scarring. For more information one the FDA recall, visit their website. 1209

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of the man killed on India Street on this month has identified him as David Hill. The 38-year-old was a pathology resident at Balboa Naval Hospital. In the Navy since 2004, Hill had reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was an avid traveler, having visited dozens of countries. His mother, Carol Hill, said he had a goal of running a marathon on every continent. Hill had already checked off the hardest, Antarctica, though he had to get creative. “He did the 26 miles on the ship’s treadmill to fill that square!” said Hill's mother. RELATED: Pedestrian hit, killed near I-5 offrampA member of the San Diego Swim Masters team, he also swam in the Antarctic waters and was training for an island-to-island swim in the Galapagos next year. “He was a fanatic about being in shape,” said his brother, Matt. “Every morning he’d get up at 4 am and swim miles or he’d get up and run.” That’s what they believe he was doing the morning of Dec. 2. He had made it a few blocks from his apartment when he was struck by the driver of a minivan on India Street near Olive and Palm. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The county's second case of measles this year has been reported, health officials announced Tuesday. The person was fully immunized but came into contact with an 11-month-old San Diego resident who contracted the disease after a recent trip to the Philippines. The second patient may have also exposed the public to measles at two locations, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services said. Those locations are:85? Bakery Café, 3361 Rosecrans Street, on Aug. 15, 16, 17 and 18 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Min Sok Chon Korean Restaurant, 4620 Convoy Street, on Aug. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.Ralph’s, 3011 Alta View Drive, on Aug. 16 from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.Officials added the case is under investigation and more locations may be identified later.“If you were at any of the locations at the dates and times listed, you should watch for symptoms of measles and call your health care provider if you show any signs of developing the disease,” said Dean Sidelinger, County interim deputy public health officer. “Measles is a very contagious disease that can be easily spread by coughing, sneezing or being in the same room with an infected person.”Measles can develop about seven to 21 days after exposure to the disease. Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. A distinctive red rash also appears one to four days after symptoms appear, starting on the face and head then spreads downward and outward. A person is considered contagious four days before the rash appears.Anyone with symptoms is asked to call their doctor’s office before visiting directly.Complications from measles are more common in children younger than 5 and adults 20 years and older, though the risk is higher with children. Complications include diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. In severe instances, death can occur.Since there is no treatment for measles, the best course is generally bed rest, fluids, and fever-control medication.
