A man is in custody after being accused of driving around the area of Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, California on Tuesday and vandalized at least 29 cars.Joey Head, 37, is in custody and faces 29 counts of felony vandalism charges, two counts of making criminal threats, two counts of brandishing a weapon and one count of driving on a suspended license.Witnesses included deputies who say this started around 4:30 p.m. and there is nearly ,000 worth of damage on these cars. 515

A glitch to the IRS' e-file portion of its website prompted the IRS to push back the deadline to file taxes from today (April 17) to tomorrow (April 18). The IRS said that both individuals and businesses can take advantage of the extra filing day without penalty. “This is the busiest tax day of the year, and the IRS apologizes for the inconvenience this system issue caused for taxpayers,” said Acting IRS Commissioner David Kautter. “The IRS appreciates everyone’s patience during this period. The extra time will help taxpayers affected by this situation.”The IRS said that during the system outage, taxpayers were able to file their tax returns electronically through their software providers and Free File.Taxpayers using paper to file and pay their taxes at the deadline were not affected by the system issue, the IRS said. The glitch shuttered part of the IRS' website, not allowing some who file taxes online to complete their taxes. A changing of the seasons has ushered in a change of a different kind for day cares across the country.Father Stephen Lundrigan has overseen Annunciation Parish for the last three years. For the last three decades, the church here has run The Caring Place, a day care that has seen generations of children come through.“It’s developed a tremendous amount of trust with the families that have sent their children there,” he said. “That’s evidence by children who have gone there end up sending their children.”But in two weeks, the playgrounds at The Caring Place will no longer be filled with kids, because the day care is closing.Day cares across the country are facing similar hardships.Most had to shut down during the spring. Unlike schools, they couldn’t provide care virtually. Day cares that have reopened have seen enrollment numbers plummet, as many parents who are working from home and don’t need child care.With nearly 18 million Americans also out of work, some families simply can’t afford daycare anymore.“I’s not just about business. If we could run it at a ,000 loss, we would, but we can’t,” said Father Lundrigan.By some estimates, a staggering 50 percent of child care providers throughout the country could close permanently by the end of the year.Capacity limits due to COVID-19 safety procedures have limited the total number of kids many places can care for. U.S. day cares also lack any kind of public funding.“Even before the pandemic, parents were struggling to afford and find child care, and this may make that worse,” said Elizabeth Davis, an economist with the University of Minnesota.Davis says without some kind of federal aid, an untold number of day cares nationwide will permanently close, and it could have long-term impacts on families and the economy.“It’s shown us how important child care is to our modern economy and it’s part of the infrastructure, and so yes, this is a sector that needs some of that support,” Davis explained.It’s just another layer of uncertainty as families try to navigate the pandemic. 2062

A federal judge has dismissed adult film star Stormy Daniels' defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump.Daniels sued Trump after he said Daniels' story of a man threatening her not to come forward with her story of her alleged affair with Trump was "a total con job."Daniels argued Trump's tweet "attacks the veracity of her account" of the incident and that Trump's statement was "false and defamatory, and that the tweet was defamation ... because it charged her with committing a serious crime," District Judge S. James Otero wrote in his opinion Monday.Trump had asked Otero to dismiss the lawsuit."The Court agrees with Mr. Trump's argument because the tweet in question constitutes 'rhetorical hyperbole' normally associated with politics and public discourse in the United States. The First Amendment protects this type of rhetorical statement," Otero wrote.Daniels says she and Trump had an affair in 2006, shortly after he married first lady Melania Trump and she gave birth to their son, Barron. Trump has denied the affair.In addition, Trump is entitled to attorney's fees, Otero said.Trump's attorney Charles J. A letter that's being circulated on Capitol Hill reveals multiple incoming freshmen -- who were largely noncommittal on the House speaker race during their campaigns --- will in fact support Nancy Pelosi.The letter, obtained by CNN, is still being circulated and so far includes 61 signatures from women incumbents and members-elect. It comes as Pelosi is shoring up support from the progressive base this week with endorsements from large and powerful groups, as well as prominent progressives in Congress — a move that will put pressure on wayward Democrats to back her bid.MoveOn, Indivisible and Tax March were among the progressive groups that threw their support behind Pelosi on Thursday and Friday, soon after she met with the Congressional Progressive Caucus. All told, 34 outside groups have backed the California Democrat. Also this week, a group of 100 LGBTQ advocates and leaders endorsed Pelosi in a letter.Rep.
